im minitubbing my 68 camaro.

ok guys im new to this forum and new to minitubbing.ive ordered my minitub kit.im wanting to run 17x12 or 18x12 wheels.do i have to narrow my rearend to get that deep dish look.if so how much?what size tires do i need?thanks for any info yall can give me.

Yes to get the deep dish look you will have to narrow the rear end...how much? That's up to how much dish you want. The best way to approach it is to buy the wheels you want, then mock them up (with tires on) and measure for the rear end. I am sure plenty of guys can tell you what they used numbers wise...but every car can very a little.

On a 68 Camaro a 315 tire on a 11" wheel fits nice with the DSE Deep Tubs....if you are willing to trim or roll the outer fender lip you can get a 335 on a 12" wheel in there. FWIW, I have a 335 on a 11.5" wheel on my 68 with trimmed lips.

Oh, and welcome to the site!!

If your doing a 17, you can use a 11" and save a TON of money as 17" Drum come in 11" width in step lip design, and avoid the $900 cost to widen 10" rims like has to be done with 18" wheels.

On a 17" X 11" you can use a 5.5" BS and get a nice deep lip, and you will narrow your rear 2' per side.

On a 18 X 12 you will use a 6" BS.

You can also run your full wdth rear and do a 7" BS on the 17 X 11 and a 8" BS on the 18 X 8 and NOT narrow your rear, but your wheel will have a stock wheel size lip.

Can you tell me how much you shortened your rear end to get those rims and tires on??? What is the total width from axle hub to axle hub???

I had my car done last summer and went with 11" rims with 5.5 BS and LOVE it. I did not want to push the edge too much on size and am very happy with the 315 size tires.

scottybuck 11 03-06-2009 03:36 PM

hey steve can you tell me the actual size of your tires? 315x?.

Sorry Rob but the car is 3k miles away right now so I can't measure for you. But understand that you can use a stock width axle with this size wheel/tire you just won't have quite as much dish as if you narrow the rear end.
