Question about safety wire and Wilwood Brakes
 
I'm in the middle of installing my Wilwood 12.2" brakes. I've run safety wire on all the bolts connecting the adapter plate to the rotor. Now I need to run safety wire on all the bolts attaching the hubs to the adapter plate/rotor. My question though is regarding the fact that there are only 5 bolts holding the hub on. Am I supposed to run safety wire to only 4 of them or do I need to double some of them up and connect each bolt to the one beside it? Any pics would be great. Thanks in advance.

Wire 3 togther and then 2 togther. You could do all 5 togther if you wanted or needed.

Thanks guys. Frank, do you do the rotor and adapter plate continuous also, or just the five on the hub.

We just did this to the front. We did them in sets of two for the rotor to the hat.

I think how many are joined is pretty unimportant so long as it's done correctly. If I had five bolts I would agree that all together would be the easiest.

There will be a story on this in the July Camaro Performers.. performed by none other than David Pozzi. :)

Thanks Steve. I think that's how I'm going to end up doing mine. I think half the battle is just learning how to use the pliers. Do any of you have any pics you could post, just to make sure that I have done it right. Thanks again for the responses.

I have search this wery same info long time. This is something i have never seen in a magazine tech story ( editors take a note ;) )

Steve was in town last week and we were out to dinner. he told me about his article. I am going to see if after it is released, if I can include a copy of the article with our Total Car Packages. I think it would be a nice addition to the pliers and wire we supply in the kit.

We were doing it and I though "hey, I don't remember ever seeing a story on this" So I grabbed my camera. Sure beats doing another cam-swap story. ;)

The process is like tying shoes. If you've never done it then it seems coplicated but it's really pretty easy.

I remember the first time I ever held a pair of the special pliars.. I was like "ok, what the hell do I do with these??"

You post this AFTER I already wire all 10 bolts together. Where was this thread last week? LOL Now I know. 3 more rotors to do.

here is a pic of my saftey wire on the wilwood brakes, I did the 2,3 combo.

I hope this helps. To get a better view you might save it to your computer and zoom in.

I did the 2 and 3 also on the hub....and just did pairs of two for the rotor/hat. When I ran the wire, I made sure that if one bolt was going to loosen, that it was oriented to pull the other bolt tight...so they would cancel each other out. Honestly I don't know if that works, but that's how I strung them together.

The pliers was an interesting learning curve....took two of us about a half an hour to figure it out...and I used to think we were the smart ones!:captain:

yes, the idea of saftey wiring bolts together is if one loosens if would have to tighten the other and vis-a-versa.
