2002 dash and console in 70 Camaro. Very fast install.
I did this is for Teddys 1970 Camaro today. Made excellent progress. The total time to install all this only took about 4-5 hours.
Dash is in, steering column, console, and the 2002 transition piece between the old and new dash is 90% finished. Only needs trimmed. 7 brackets for the dash and 3 so far for the console. I designed cut and fabricated every bracket myself. It sure helps using a plasma cutter and a great mig welder that Teddys friend had. The extra helping hands were nice too. Im not used to that but definetly appreciate it. Time for pics beginning to almost end. This is most of the mock up. If you look close you can see the new trick gauge in the center between the tach and speedo from Dakota digital. http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/1561/11jb1.th.jpghttp://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9614/25nm.th.jpghttp://img370.imageshack.us/img370/5732/36yk1.th.jpg |

Adam-
What does the swap do for knee room on 1st & second gens? Have you worked out something that allows the use of the new controls with the old (like VA gen II stuff) A/C, or is he using an LSx setup? Nice work, by the way. Care to do a 68 Firebird (in other words, a guinea pig)??? |

As for the electrical, I will probably do the same with his car that I did with my 69 Camaro. I made almost all the new 2002 gauges work with the 69 electronics like lights, heater, wipers......I will do the same with his. I do know he is going fuel injection and is using the vintage air set up. Yes I can do your 68 Firebird. It would probably be almost exactly the same as my 69 Camaro. Bring it by and I will have your dash and console in that day. :) Im in Michigan. If you want front and rear 4th gen seats I can probably do all that the same day too. I am very confident I can install a 4th gen interior in 1 day max. (if the windshield is already out) Thanks for the compliment Shannon. I could only dream of having the talent that you have. Your work is very inspiring! I will probably get ahold of you when I do the door panels for the 69 and the 70 camaros. |
Will the windshield actually fit back into this car?, The reason I ask is in the 1st picture in the 4th post, it appears that the dash (not the transition piece) protrudes out past the cowl and a-pillars....it may be an optical illusion but I was just curious.

Any chance you might be willing to produce and sell brackets and templates for the installation of the various components of the interior. I'd be interested in a console and rear seats, but Id like to keep my 1st-gen dash.

Mi
Whereabouts in MI? I'm originally from NE Detroit (around the corner from Redford HS). Great neighborhood these days... JK. I think my biggest stumble would be getting the car up there from FL.
What do you get for this, if you supply, or I supply the interior pieces (swearing at himself for Ebaying a complete 2000 TA interior)? |
