6sd auto

I was wondering if anyone has used the tci 6sp electronic trans yet. Im looking to install it in a camaro project with with the paddle shifter assembly. they rate them out of the box to take about 800hp. anyone burst one yet? Id like to know how reliable the paddle shifter assembly is because I will not have a console shifter to go with it.

you'll still need a physical shifter to move from park to neutral/reverse/drive etc. The paddle shifter just gives a manual mode with paddles for upshift/downshift, but won't handle the park/reverse/neutral/drive duties.

the rep at sema told me that you can use there key pad deal to move the out of park, reverse ect. Its small enough to hide and still make it accessible. just hope the trans is reliable

ok, then this is different than what I've used and seen. The trans should handle a fair amount of power, I've seen them beat on a ton in the CTSV's.

If I heard correctly that set up is on the high side of five grand

OUCH...

byron 12-31-2009 05:42 PM

$6200 after the smoke clears... nasty I know but paddle shifters and six speed kinda turns me on....

Sandbagger 12-31-2009 06:42 PM

Somebody is listening . Less than an hour after I posted that I got a news letter from Kiesler .
Im putting together a C4 and will probably still go with the five speed . The paddle thing reminds me of my nephew s 5 & 7 on there PS2

pardon my "newbieness" but are we speaking about the same paddle system that is offered by "twist machine?

i ask cause i am considering my options about a paddle shift system as i iron out the details for my soon to be announced build

Isn't this thread about the 6spd re-jiggered 4L80E tci is selling, not a 6L80E like in the gm cars?

I thought this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-271600P/

But then you said CTS-V and I got all confused! :)

How did they manage to get the 4 speed 4L80E to be a sixspeed?

A brief discussion here on it: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171317

It is my understanding that it is a re-enginered L80 trans case. It has 5 forward gears and a lock up converter. If I understood right. I like the tci paddle system because its all internal. no external cylinder or mechanical linkage like all other paddle systems Iv looked into.

This is the 4L80E case, the 6L80E has a much bigger case and many cars will require some tunnel mods to fit it. I believe they used the 4 series case to fit most cars easier. Easier to market that way? With a rating of 850hp it should live behind most 550-600hp street motors for a long time.

we just fit one in a full perimeter chassis 69 camaro we are building, it is getting paint and interior, but we will be test driving it in early febuary .
ours is going behind a 640 hp 454ci lsx

-jakes- you'll have to post your thoughts on this thread for me once you have beat on it for me. I'll likely have ordered by then but you never know.

Any news on how the transmission worked in that application?

v502 10-25-2010 04:17 AM

I had a 6l90 the beefier version of 6l80 i my 79 c10 i drove it really hard it shift so fast it was really nice transmission it worked fine with 450rwhp.

In the corvette world they seem to handle from 550 to 600 whp anything fine but there was vette's here and there that had problems in that range to.

They don't have any upgrades that solves the issues that people have with them yet.
