high speed rated tires for a prostreet

Picking up my new 69 Camaro at the end of this month, id to get a set of custom wheels made in either 18/19, or 19/20 could even go with a set of 18/18 if its my only option. The issue is i need a tire that can go on a 15 or 16" wide rear wheel that wont look terrible and is speed rated for over 200mph. Ive noticed most "street" tires only go to 345, the Veyron has a set of 365's but i need something even wider then that. Tire choices will really be the deciding factor on what size wheels i go with. Trying to run 210-220mph in the car.

There is your width, I have them on my 20x15s. But only rated at 130.

exactly, ive seen those on MT's website but i need something that is safe at 200+

Also are there any Aero mods to create some down force up front?

There is no tire the size you are looking for that has the Z speed rating.

a drag slick.. why does it need to be z or y rated

You're only going to find a drag specific tire in that width, no road car uses a tire that wide.

Because im going to try to go well over 200mph in the car. Im concerned with the heat those runs build up on a drag tire. Would you wanna run for an entire mile at full throttle on a drag radial or slick?

A lot of Texas Mile cars use R6's of some other DOT-R tire like that, but again, you're only going to find them in normal road car sizes.

Put more narrow tires on it for the mile. 345/35/18 is the only drag radial I know of that can do that. Viper Guys use them all the time.

Those wide tires will be anchors in the mile anyway.

Thats what im thinking. Run a really wide "street" tire and then have a set of dedicated tires for the mile

Like Frank said, winding up a 20x15 to 220 will take some serious steam and your traction advantage will go out the window when your poor motor is trying to turn all that weight and mass at high MPH. Even the Veyron takes a super slippery car with traction control, AWD and 1000 hp to barely make 200 in a standing mile. A 12" wheel will work far better for top speed runs and will probably only require a wider rearend.

You might want to contact the S.C.T.A. (Southern California Timing Association)

They are the people who run "Speed Week" at the Bonneville Salt Flats. They will certainly know who makes high speed tires and wheels.

Click on all the links that are associated with them, they are cool and very informative.

I wouldn't skimp on your research for this if 220 mph is in fact you goal.

Good Luck.

Keep us posted.

are you sure you will hit 220 in the standing mile with an f2 blower? you will propably need the first 1000 horses just maintaining that speed... and the time you have to accelerate not an awefull lot when you are running that high a speed.. remember to accelerate to twice the speed on the same distance, you need eight times the horsepower (to the ground) NOT counting drag....

Drag has a lot to do with it (almost everything), but an F2 blower is more then capable of pushing a car past 220mph in one mile. They are good for 1600 plus horsepower... Since I have one, I have to stick up for them. ;)
