JCG Restoration & Customs 70 Z28 Camaro

I got the bug for second gen Camaros! I got to stop working on my own cars :D I call it "Research & Development" LOL

We are cutting, stretching, bulging, & mini tubing.. This orignal 70 Z28 will follow a true Trans Am Style look to it... Have Ben H working on the rendering

Those are 345-30- 19 in the back :unibrow: We are still working on seeing how we are going to be able to have it at this ride height without hitting the outer fender well...

Will post so more pics later tonight with more information!!!

Here is one more pic!!

Cread01 04-12-2010 03:59 PM

nice start... that ride height would look sick.

tones2SS 04-12-2010 04:49 PM

That's awesome Cris! Good deal! That would be killer if you could get the ride height there.
I like the "research & development" idea!! lollll.....:unibrow:

Cris@JCG 04-12-2010 10:16 PM

The upper qtr panel opening is proving to a challenge :_paranoid The angle is not allowing me to ride the tire in position I have it now without tire rub on a suspension rebound.. Back to some more "research & development".. Might need to step down to a 335-30-18

Dude---you are the man! That looks sick---shoot, even if you have to step the size down, it isn't going to take away from it IMHO. Please keep the pics coming bro--great work as always.

Was great hanging with you and the boys (and girls) at Del Mar and the after party---looking forward to seeing you again in May!

Doug

Cris@JCG 04-12-2010 11:04 PM

Thanks Doug! The stance on your 9 is driving me to achieve the stance as low as I can get it.. I will get it but will take some metal massaging & some custom rear suspension..

It was great hanging out with you too.. Looking forward to hanging out again in May.. Maybe Albert will be back down again for Costa Mesa..

Cris, it looks great so far. I agree with Doug too, if you had to step down to a 335/30/18 I don't think it would take away from car at all. Did you see Brian's Camaro by the end of Saturday? I was driving behind him, leaving the autocross and that his car just looked all business, and killer at the same time. I think Chad was saying he lowered it an inch sometime during Saturday. So are you stuffing a 285 up front?

Matt

Lemons 04-13-2010 10:54 PM

Cris, that thing looks freakin killer. I love it. I've got a 73 that is gonna need that treatment. I love the work you are doing lately. Those stretched fenders look great.

Chris

Cris@JCG 04-13-2010 11:00 PM

Thanks Matt.. taking a few weeks off from the project till I come up with different tires for the rear to try out.. Brian F car is an awsome looking car & the stance is great on his car.. Front tires are still up in the air.. running the stock sub-frame with suspension up-grades.. Making a few custom pcs for the front suspension.. got a sway bar idea.. making custom hubs for maximum size on tires, & a few other pcs that we are designing that I will keep under wraps till they are done..

Got a carbon fiber hood

Running a small block with a TKO 5 speed

Rear suspension will be ???

Wheels will be "Gen Lite"

The car was citrus green.. with dark green interior
http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/P8100064.jpg

Going with snake skin green with black stripes.. & black interior

v8livin 04-14-2010 03:58 AM

I usually don't like this model Camaro, but with this stand and those wheels it looks killer. Cant wait to see how the rest turns out!

Cris@JCG 04-14-2010 02:48 PM

Thanks Brian! your build has been a big influence on me getting my 2nd gen going.. I will keep the pics coming as we progress along..

Cris@JCG 04-14-2010 10:04 PM

Thanks Guys!! Went over to get some advise from my buddy Allan Palmer from Palmer Customs to brain storm on some ideas of how I can maintain this stance with the tire in pic.. Hell I even called Mark @ Bent!! Calling all the troops in on this one :D

Ben Hermance Rendering

Ben just finished up the rendering for me on my 70! You will be able to see this thing coming for a mile away.. The Viper snake skin green pops pretty damm nice.. Green happens to be my favorite color on a car!! This car is being built for my daughter for when she graduates from hight school. I was lucky when I graduated from high school cause my dad gave me a 1966 427 Corvette as a graduation present.. So I feel obligated to doing the same for my daughter! In the mean time dad gets to enjoy the car till she graduates.. she is only four yrs old right now!

It will be noticed. :D

That's very thoughtful of you Cris to take the time to get the car dialed in properly for your daughter. ;)

syborg tt 06-08-2010 03:54 PM

Chris the car looks awesome.

I am also building a 2nd gen for my Daughter for when she graduates. However my Daughter is 9.

Couple things i've figured out with Ride Height. Once you get the rear tire where you want it and it looks good. The front becomes a bigger problem. With a 26" tall tire up front there isn't much room for suspension travel as the tire hits the inner fender.

If you look at the formula Rad Rides is building they have the car set at 4" ride height and the inside of the fender ( no inner fender ) from memory was only 29" from the ground.

ps - Hurry up and post up some more pics as I want to steel some of your idea's.

71RS/SS396 06-08-2010 05:35 PM

2nd gens are very challenging to get sitting low and fit the tires under. I have done several with modified stock suspensions and have finally got a combo that works pretty good with some compromises. The tires/wheels aren't the only hurdle, the exhaust clearance is another problem.
Here's a pic of one of my recent ones.

71RS/SS396 your gold camaro is one of the best looking 2nd. gens on the planet. And I think the 70-73 camaro's are the best looking camaro's GM ever built to this date.Your camaro is perfect!!!!.Love your car.Scott:thumbsup:

Can you give us the wheel size on your car?

71RS/SS396 06-08-2010 08:51 PM

Fronts = 18X7 4.5 bs Nitto 555 235/40-18
Rears = 18X8 4.75 or 5 bs (depending on how low you go) Nitto 555 275/40-18

Nothing fancy, this car was intended to be simple from the start.
Dropped spindles and QA-1 coilovers in the front, de-arced springs and lowering blocks in the rear. The sway bars are off of a 79 WS-6 Trans Am and the steering box is an Iroc box. I plan on installing Kore 3 brakes and that's all I'm doing to it.

Cris@JCG 06-09-2010 10:22 AM

I will make sure that I attend as many open track events to ensure that that the cars dialed in before I hand Gia the keys :D

Maybe our daughters will trade paint on the track Marty

I am going to modify the front fenders & inner fender wells.. Got some suspension components in design for the front!

Nice color Cris

Hdesign 06-10-2010 09:26 AM

Thanks for the opportunity to get involved Cris. My 4.5 YO daughter already has her eye on my 70 also! Though, she wants it pink of course!

As for the color choice.....all Cris, I can't take any credit for that. The first thing out of his mouth when we talked about the rendering was Viper Snakeskin Green. It's pretty intense but it has a bright gold aspect to it that gives it some dimension and depth. I was thinking that the new Synergy Green from the 2010 Camaro could be another option.

Looks like greens are big lately, this is like the 5th project since last summer where I presented a bunch of different color schemes and the owner/builder went for the green. Golds, champagnes, bronzes are pretty popular too.

Cris@JCG 06-10-2010 09:20 PM

Thanks Dave!

Love those 2nd Gens.....and I love green. Can't wait.
My daughter already has a car too, and she just turned 6! A certain one-owner 65 Coupe is already promised to her, skipping me entirely!
The things we do for our kids!

Gathering parts!

We have so busy here @ the shop that we have not had time to work on my car but have been working on gathering some parts or fitting parts from other 2nd gens to move mine forward..

I got a smoking deal on this brand new LS3!!

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0264.jpg

Borrowing parts from Mary Pozzi's car to fit my motor & build engine mounts & transmission cross member..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0266.jpg

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0265.jpg

Just picked up these components from Speedway Engineering to do a floating rear end with 1.5 negitive camber built into the rear end.. about 1/64 toe in..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0263.jpg

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0261.jpg

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0262.jpg

I will be doing a custom rear brake system that will have a functional parking brake using all of Wilwood components..

tones2SS 07-22-2010 05:41 PM

Very nice Cris!!

89 RS 07-24-2010 02:07 PM

That is going to be one bad 2nd gen, you do awesome work Cris!

Cris@JCG 07-24-2010 07:38 PM

Thanks Cory!

Here is another part that I am working on.. Always have hated modifying the original 2nd gen spindles to fit aftermarket brakes.. So we are making our own spindle..
