Roger

It looks like you leveled out the rain gutter. That has always been an idea of mine on those cars. I'm sure it will be bad ass like your vette when it is done.

I hope you are going to be able to get it low enough to the ground to make the low roof line look proportioned.. Muscle cars always look weird chopped to me because the body is proportioned to the roof pretty well from the factory.. im looking forward to seeing how this comes out!

The roof line on these cars stock is all wrong, the front is higher than the back. What you are doing makes a huge difference in look of the car.
I like the proportions of the Venom glass bodies, they made me realize how bad the stock roof was. Check out Jesse Greenings site, he's doing one also.

wellis77 08-08-2010 11:19 PM

Subscribing to this one! I like what you are doing. I'm going a similar direction with my 69 Dart, except I'm building the front and rear clips using Viper suspension pieces. Hard to tell in the pics, but how are you attaching the frame to the body? Did you remove the inner rockers? I am thinking about cutting out the inner rockers and moving the frame perimiter into the rockers and welding there. Nice work you are doing, I am looking forward to seeing more. Just curious, why 2"x3" tube instead of 2"x4"? Are you running a cage?

69c4x11 08-10-2010 07:19 PM

Since it is a perimeter frame, and the rocker panels would accept 3" and not 4" , is my reasoning,,I also wanted the floor space and leg& knee space,, the bottom of the 3x2 will be the floor pan,, the exhaust will be in the tunnel along with driveshaft,,, 2x4" will be used from the rear tie-in, to the rear of car,

wellis77 08-11-2010 05:59 AM

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense. How far into the rockers did you go with the perimeter?

69c4x11 08-14-2010 07:10 AM

The rockers on the nova have a double vertical panel in it,, I cut through the first which is close to3/4" from the other panel,, This left the original piece to help support car on the jig !! It would have crushed the rockers,, I built a 69 camaro 5" ride height 5yrs ago and used 3x3 in the rockers & 2x4 for the frame rails,, but floor pan was flat, and not much knee room !!!! It was perimeter but the main 2x4 was straight ,on 28" centers,,, the 2x3 added structural rigidity ,,http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...h_000_0014.jpghttp://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...h_000_0016.jpghttp://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...h_000_0017.jpghttp://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...h_000_0018.jpghttp://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...h_000_0019.jpg

As I said,, it sure isn't John's Novanutcase !!

wellis77 09-12-2010 11:38 PM

It's definitely not the Novanutcase but you are making good progress and you should be proud of where you're at with it. Are you planning on fishplating your joints on the back-half? Out of curiousity also, did you do anything when welding your chassis together to avoid warpage. I'm planning how I'll be attacking that part of my chassis build now and I've read that some don't worry too much about it, others go over-the-top crazy to avoid it. Looking good! Will

Looks good pops!!!! Dash is gonna look killer.

wellis77 09-22-2010 11:55 PM

What are you doing for the wheel tub to quarter panel seam? Looks like weather stripping on there now.

Looks good so far, though it's hard to tell for certain the direction of the dash. Got any sketches to give us a better idea?

69c4x11 09-23-2010 08:04 AM

Tubs

I'm using 63-82 Corvette hood ledge seal on the tub to qtr,, If Neal Lea says it'll work ,it's gospel !! The only sketches I have are on a carton of Bud + Busch light ! More sketches on qtr's with Sharpie,, Will update progress !!

Not trying to rain on anyones parade etc -- but how do you plan to get behind the dash for wiring - and installs etc? Is it removable? Ditto the console...
