1969 Z-06
How about a 69' with a complete 2008 Z-06 running gear and suspension? How about a full crome moly chassie? I being building on it for a little over a year and it's almost done. I'm not much for posting and posting pics so bear with me and i'll do the best I can Thank's Bob

Sounds real good.....now for those pics!

The car I started with was a nice virgin sheet metal car and saved alot of time. I bot a complete drive train and the wheel base is within 1 in. of a stock camaro so the tork tube did'nt have to be modified. The tracking width is wider so it had to be narrowed and new rear axles had to be made.
|
Now that's awesome. How much did you have to narrow it up?

If I remember it was like 3 and a half on front and 5 on rear. I used the stock Z-06 wheels and they have alot of offset I don't think you could ever get it in far enough to put a conv. style wheel Thank's Bob
|
I new there had to be someone out there doing this. What about the transverse leafs? How did you narrow them?
|
Thats an awesome project. I can't wait to see this one done.
|
Way cool build.

did'nt use factory springs or the cradles front and rear. I've seen them narrowed, split in the middle and rewelded, just does'nt look good. I put coil overs on all 4 corners Bob
|
Go with the Pfadt coilovers all the way around.... that'll get rid of the spring all the way around.
|
QA1 Just came out with a coil over kit for the C5/C6. I am doing the same thing you are doing but in a 68 camaro. Did you lengthen your torque at all?
|
Nice build Bob.

c-6 vette is 107" and a camaro is108" move the motor back a half and trans forward a half and you have the same. I cut back into the fire wall 4 inch's and kept all the same locating points as a stock c-6
|
Very cool build. I'm doing something similar but with Viper components on a 69 Dart, less the V10 (too much weight and lack of balance). Where did you pick up your shortened axles? Are they new or did you have the stocks shortened? Thanks.
|
ohh I like this build!

Mark Williams made the axles. The stock ones were .060 to small to respline. a little pricie because they had not done any yet. Something else pretty cool, the peddals out of a c-6 brake, clutch and gas fit pretty nicely in a first gen.without much mods and moves the corvette booster over 3 inchs for more motor clearence
|
Awesome project Bob! In hindsight of everything I've modded on my '69, your approach may end up being less work LOL! But seriously, it's great to hear how everything is fitting and what needs modification. You'll have the best of both worlds IMHO. Among the advantages you get to run the ABS, stock drysump, brakes plus no messing with new transmission etc.
Will you be running the stock BCM and instruments? Doing a custom harness or will you be able to adapt the stock one? I'll be watching to see how you get on tackling the cooling and intake with the front of the '69. So many questions..... By the way - you are doing a great job of updates and pics - keep 'em coming Bob! G. |

I've taken the stock corvette complete wiring and spent MANY hours weeding the unneeded wires. I'm using the ABS,traction control, heated seats, power seats out of the corvette, keyless start, power door locks with electric door latches, and the corvette guages with digital display. I'ts taken me 3 months to wire it and now i'm cross eyed. Bob

I like what you are doing here Bob! Can't wait to see this project done..

WOW!! Nice work. This is going to be a real nice car.I think the Qa1's will work fine unless you want too go after Mark Stielow , Brain Finich,or Kyle Tucker in all competition. Some of the folks think it has to be over the top to be a good product.

Hey Bobby
Good to see ya here, car is looking killer i got to get over an see it. Sorry i missed the twisted kilt the other night had a emeg. come up an could not make it. Steve said you guys had a good time. We will have to catch up next month when we all get together again. Thanks |
I like the Z0-6 wheels I have a set of 08 crome and a set of 10 silver and i like the silve one's the best. GM spent alot of money on sus.
geomentry and I put all the same mounting points as a stock vette. As far as shocks go I used the Phafts on all corners And yes David, we had a good time told lots of storys and lies. That place is just like a Hooters except diff. Attire. Seeya next time, Bobby |
WOW THIS THINGS COOOOOOOL!!!
If this is a street car be sure to keep an eye on all that moly...... its brittle and will crack under extended street use. ;) |

what is your ride height? do you have any side profile pictures?
|
Looking really good Bob. The wiring alone looks like it was a huge task in itself.
|
Looking good Bob!
Keep us posted. |
I was just thinking, is this is going to be the first completed 1st gen Camaro built with this concept? I know Ironworks has a couple in the shop.
At any rate, fantastic build there Bob. |
