headliner w/ cage ?'s
Anyone have interior pics of headliners installed that either hide the cage window bars or blend them in nicely? My window bars need to be moved upward into the side channel to give more head clearance. Thanks

Stock headliner can't be used to cover bars unless you have it sewed special.
|
I guess I should have asked for custom headliner pics. I wasn't expecting a stock one to fit regardless of vehicle. Thanks. You have any examples Tracy?
|
I have taken a few I believe. I have an aftermarket headliner and a DSE cage, but it's the stock style I believe. I'll try and post up some photos tonight.
The bars are approximately 3/4" from the headliner at the closest point. I had to tape paper sheets to the headliner when I painted it and could barely get the (spray) paint up there. |
I decided to do my headliner with the perforated aluminum because of the clearance issues with the headliner. You could also do one with foam board and velcro and the headliner kit material you can buy at most Pep Boy's or other auto parts places.

Headliner

That is a great question, i have the same issue going on. I tucked my cage up to the roof as close a i could, i was told by all the off road guys that build the full cage trucks that they glue the hearliner in and wrap it around the cage and it looks real clean. I dont have any pics, nor have i seen it done, but i hope when i get to that point in my build it all comes together. Good luck, hopefully someone will show us some picts :)

headliner
Haha yes those are a much needed support cylinders. Good eye, thought nobody would see those. :D

Thanks for posting the picture. That sure is a tight cage. Unfortunately I refuse to take my roof panel off. Don't make me do :(. Surely we can come up with some pics of a finished interior with a trickerie headliner. May have to go underground for this one.

Fireboy,
I dont want to be critical, but your cage will not pass an sanctioning body for racing. Its not a continuous main hoop and the rear supports look to have a splice. |
That is one of those projects that are put together a piece at a time, It can be done, We have in the past. I never really bothered with detailed pics because when you looked at them you couldn't tell what was done to cover bars. I would use aluminum and build sections then connect them together, foam, cover and install. Its one of those things you have to see go together. Its hard to explain on a forum post. Every car and cage combo is different.

Really?
I did not know this about cages. So it has to be a solid hoop? I would like to road race this car at times. Wow what a letdown, i love the way it looks. Well i guess i will deal with that later, thanks for the info!!

With that being said not all cars require a full cage as a requirement for track days.
The main hoop needs to be one piece and no more than 4 bends. Placed no more than 6" behind the drivers head and 2" above the drivers head. |

I saw their build with that cage. Its not legal for SCCA or NHRA or NASA. The main hoop per those sanctioning body must be one continuous piece with no more than 4 bends. It also doesnt mean its not a safe or well engineered cage. It just means it wont pass tech for those sanctioning bodies. But most of our cars dont need a legal cage to compete. NHRA requires a cage at 11.30 ET, thats fast for a car with a PT type rear suspension with under 550 hp. SCCA does not require a cage unless its a convertible. The only issue comes in when you want to mount a 5pt harness, you cant do it with out a roll bar. |
417,
here is the thread that the ironworks cage was discussed. http://www.pro-touring.com/showthrea...sion-69-camaro it seams that the car wa built to be non competitive. Just a show car. |
