18" wheel fitment for '69 Camaro

Hi guys

I've done a little looking into this and I know the answer really is "depends" rather than anything concrete but I'd like to sap up as much of your excellent experience as I can for our project '69 Camaro

The car is currently dead stock and was restored a couple years ago.

We want to run about 2" lower (not with blocks) and we want to run 18" diameter rims. I'd love to think we can get 10x18 under the stock rear tubs with stock located springs in place. I somehow suspect we can't though.

We will be running disc brakes all round and I am aware sometimes that changes the requirement on backspace etc. a little.

Your thoughts and comments are most welcome guys.

I am running 245/40/18 and 275/40/18 on 18x8/18x9.5. The approximate fender lip to ground measurements are 24.5f and 25.2r. Fronts rub when turning in parking lots a little. I've pushed it pretty hard on a twisty road with no contact issues. Rear tail pipe routing may be an issue, my 2,5" pipes needed to be flatted aproximately .75". Pan head bolts and a little metal massaging should neutralize it. Stock A-arms, lowered coils and leafs, 1" blocks in leafs. Pinion angle went downward 2*.

Sorry about that. 5"f and 5.5"r

alistair 06-22-2011 10:13 AM

thanks, big help. We're getting a plan together now!

You can run 18x10's w/ 275-40-18's on the back if you roll your lips on the 1/4's and you don't have your ride height super low. I did and had no rubbing issues with the suspension setup right. This was with de-arched dropped leafs and QA1 shocks.

The wheels were 18x10 with 5.75" BS, stock width rear and Baer disc brake kit.

alistair 06-22-2011 11:40 AM

thanks for that. rolling the arches is an option

Also, search username musclecarjohn, he's running 18x10's on his stock tubbed '69

alistair 06-23-2011 02:12 AM

wow, that yellow Z is stunning. Thanks for the replies guys.

A little arch work and 5.75" BS and we can run 10x18s then.

Still looking at the brake package but wheels will be needed to go with them

No, I spent a couple of years under the car taking measurements. I'm also running 18x9" on the front.

I am running Fikse 18x10 rears with 5 5/8" Backspace (275-40-18). Stock sheet metal, no problems with 2" lowering on 4 link.

Yep, an 18 X 10.0" should fit on the back of a '69 with no rolling of quarter panels needed, with the proper backspacing, like so.

(I believe this is your car, g356gear)

We can even fit an 18 X 10.0" on the back of a '67-68 with a little bit of massaging (this one ran a 295 rear tire too)

Im running 19x10's with 275/35/19's out back. Everything is in stock location. I did need to do some minor wheel lip trimming.

creekwood08 08-03-2011 06:13 PM

think i could run a set of 19x8.5 up front. I found a set of wheels 19x8.5 and 19x9.5. I know the rears will work just wondering about the 8.5 with a stock suspension up front
