Types of 4-Link Suspensions
 
We have decided to go get rid of the leaf springs on the 69 Camaro and go with a 4-link setup. I've never examined one up close or installed one before.

I've seen "4-link" and "4-bar" systems. It looks like the 4 bar systems have equal length links while the 4 links are unequal. I understand unequal lengths are more desirable for wheel hop. This car won't be thrashed at the track, so the absolute best performance isn't necessary. Or is it?

Also, tire clearance is tight, width-wise, so I'm not too crazy on using a panhard bar. We really can't afford any side-to-side movement during suspension travel. Are there triangulated 4 links out there?

If anyone can point me in the right direction to get started on my rear suspension education, that would be great!

Welcome to the site, and this topic has been beaten to death. Try using the search at the top of the fourm. That should give you at least 2 days worth of reading. Also post up some pictures of your ride in the project section. :thumbsup:

Two of the most popular and proven rear suspension setups are from DSE and AME. I will be using he Art Morrison rear setup since it replaces those weak stamped rear frame rails. Both are triangulated four link and very capable.

Normally a 4 bar has very little adjustments where a 4 link has more.Have you looked at a 3 link or torque arm set up? Like http://www.speedtechperformance.com/...rod/prd170.htm or http://www.jakesrodshop.com/Products.html or a bolt in one https://securec20.ezhostingserver.co...id=25&catid=77

^ that is a drag race set up. Really good for planting the rear on fast starts, not so good for going around corners.

I read that 4 bars are considered more for street use, (corners) and 4 links were for drag racing.

You might be right, but that looks like a 4 link to me. Ask the seller his intended application, get some stats (AS%) and see what he says...

Looks a lot like the Checkered Racing setup that came on my wife's Carmaro. We just repalced it with a Chris Alston Chassisworks G-Link. We wanted a better ride quality at the low ride height we were trying to run. The top links were hitting the rear floor boards. We were also swapping out the 10 bolt anyways so it was a good time to change it all out.

It's avialable if you want it. Make me an offer.

Take a look at these. Both are triangulated 4links which is similar to that used on the Chevelle A-body.

I installed the Chassisworks G-Link in my 68Camaro just like Ed's above and I'm very happy with the results and ease of installation. I notice on the Chris Alston web site they now have some additional products for these suspensions that I may have to think about.

I have had my eye on the Chassisworks G bar for a while. How do you guys like them. Can you use them to eliminate wheel hop too?

That's exactly the brand. He also sells on eBay.

I'm also lowering the car. Were the links hitting the floor at the point it starts going up over the rear? I'm at a point now where I could possibly modify the floor for extra clearance.

Ride quality was obviously poor with it setup this way. Though we never adjusted it to see where it could be before we decided to replace it. I sent you a PM with some more details on our experience with the car after we bought it.

If adjustability & ease of installation is as important as performance a Torque Arm is something to look at. There are many systems out there and most are well worth using, but the key to a great purchase is figuring out if the system you choose meets all your needs and goals. :thumbsup:

DSE has a system that works great. Handling and ride. The ride and handling of my blue 69 was fantastic with their quadralink. It's beaten on and proven weekly by their test cars or by some of the other fast guys driving around here. Go take a ride with them.
