1969 Camaro at the Roadster Shop
Here is a 69 Camaro that we started a few months back for a local customer. He brought in a driver quality car and wanted to really take it to the next level. Unhappy with the ride, the power, the interior, or exterior, the plan was for a complete overhaul to bring the car up to today's standards. Not a full blown track car, but something that he could drive across country comfortably and still be in contention at local auto-X events.
Still in the planning phase on a lot of things, but here are the basics to get started. Roadster Shop Fast Track Chassis System 14" Wilwoods D/A Afco coilovers 550-600 HP LS3 T-56 Magnum trans 18's and 20's Several subtle body mods All black with matte black and red accents Original car http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture17621.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture17642.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture17635.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture17649.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture17691.jpg |
Disassembly revealed a few surprises:

Would this be the same camaro I saw in the background of recently posted picture of another build? You know, the one with the Nelson Twin turbo sitting in it.:D Either way, I'm sure it will be another award winner.

The body ended up in worse condition than we had originally thought. It was not horrible, but not great. Some one had patched the floors and did a custom quarter panel installation on both sides. The doors and fenders had some previous work as well. The car now needed floors, quarters, door skins, and lower fenders.

The chassis was built while we were waiting for parts to come in.

Awesome. I enjoy the posts and looking around the shop.
One question off topic, can you tell me about the photo of the rear of the cobra that is on the wall in one of the views of the camaro? Thanks, Darren |

Looks great. Two questions 1) who do you use for media blast, I want to get my 70 chevelle blasted. 2) What body bushings do you guys use on your builds?

I just love that frame, would love to have one of those under my Camaro. Also does the owner of this Camaro want to sell the trans?

Renderings of the car completed by Chris Gray. We are going for a modernized version of the 1969 Camaro with a few subtle details to enhance the look with out taking away from the original lines of the car.

Very nice. You guys do killer work.
I can't wait to see this one done. |
We have made some great progress in the past week on the car. Passenger side quarter has been installed and modified to fit. We widened the mini-tubs and finished the install. Started on to the driver side quarter and fitment. Also fit the front end and completed the driver side inner fender.
We started by fitting the passenger side quarter and noticed that we could drive a truck between it and the door. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture20631.jpg The latch pillar portion was cut off the main quarter and the quarter was then fit where it needed to go. A filler strip added to bridge the needed space. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture20651.jpg Tacked in place. The door still needs some attention to finish getting the gap 100% correct. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture20712.jpg Final welded and metal finished http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture20858.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture20857.jpg |
A taller tire and lower ride height in the rear didn't give enough clearance with the standard deep tubs. The tubs were split and widened to allow for the 335 20" PS2's in the back.

Cleaned up the flange on the inner fender and extended it over the upper shock mount and control arm.

Nice
Sweet build guys, gonna follow this one, ? who's replacment metal you guys using? and who's wheels are those that are on the mock up?
