Cool, progress! Sorry, I can't relate.
Where do you live? Is it rural? |
Quote:
now i know who i can barefooting with , i had a mastercraft till a year ago . do you have a barefoot boom ? i have one left over from mine you can have it if you will use it . |
Scott,
It is rural I guess you could say! N. Oklahoma. Our Wal-mart is the only one you can walk in and see all 4 walls of the store-Literally. The closest house is about a mile away. The closest movie theater is 38 miles. I wouldn't trade any of it, a 400 acrea yard to grow up in. You can't ever say you are bored out here. There is always cows to feed, fences to fix and plenty of other work. -I actually had a conversation with someone awhile back that was from a large city and I asked what in the heck do you guys do? She laughed and said what the heck do you do out there. |

I have always wanted to learn to barefoot. I would defintely use it. I am going to build a Skyline pole this spring. I have a few friends who barefoot but I never have got a chance to try it out. When I get the engine finished up we may have to drag it up to the lake and do some skiing. How does the pole attach? |
Sort of a strange place to mount a battery, but I am sure you know what you are doing ;)
Seriously.. nice to see progress.. That's a nice blue you chose  |
Nice Nautique, very clean resto, I have spent many hours behind the wheel of one of those. You should check out www.planetnautique.com or www.the2001.com if you haven't already found them. If you like wakeboarding you should check out wakeworld.com

right on man, awesome progress

Looks good. You need to drive it down after you finish it up. Who did you decide to get to paint it?

I don't know when I will ever have it complete, but when I get it finished up I will drive it down. I still got a lot of work to do. Thanks for the compliments everyone. I look forward to seeing paint on the car. |
Very cool Andrew...I know it's been a long time coming!! Can't wait to see some pics of her painted!! Yeah I'm jealous!!

12-31-08 Subframe
Well today I got some work done on the frame. I had already assembled and painted the frame once before and it looked good, but I didn't like the gloss black and I found a hairline crack in the frame.
I blasted it back down, rewelded all the seams and then smoothed it out. I shot a coat of etch primer today and then sprayed some gray primer this evening. I should have done some close up shots, but this is where I am at. I decided to tape off arms and leave them installed so I didn't beat up the frame re-installing them. More updates soon...it has been awhile since I have added anything! I am going to start fabbing up some homemade subframe connectors based off of the Hotchkis ones and hopefully get those installed along with the frame. I am trying to get all my ducks in a row before starting to paint the body. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01309.jpg |
Looks good!!! Going with a semi-gloss black this time?

I am practicing as much as I can on painting the small parts so when it comes time to shoot the car I will be more comfortable with the gun. I hope my how to books and videos pay off!! |
I love the look that you are going for....and yes Stuart's blue car is awesome!
Keep on painting....you can do it!! |
Update on subframe and rear frame rail brace
Yesterday I painted the frame. Today I assembled some of the parts. I shot a coat of primer on the hubs, spindles, and tie rods today. I will try and get those painted next week. Next, I will finish assembling the C5 brakes on the front.
Finally...making some progress :woot: |
Looks great! Nice to see all the progress!!

small update
I need to get better at updating this thing!
A few small updates. I purchased an LS1 from a 98 Z28 w/ 68K. I always wanted an LS1 and now I got one! The wife helped me tear the motor down and we got it back and reassembled in a weekend. Looks to be a solid motor. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC00176.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01310.jpg Plans for the motor: Thunder Racing 230/224/111 cam w/ comp. springs and new rods LS6 intake ported LS1 throttle body paint the block, heads chevy orange. paint the stock f-body accessories black paint the LS6 intake a cast color I am also going to run the corvette fuelie style fuel rail covers and they will be orange w/ silver script on them. (kinda an old school theme) Long tube headers (undecided) carshopinc. plates f-body oil pan modification-got a friend at a machine shop going to do this. Here is a before an after photo. We still gotta a little more work to do to get it the way I want it. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01154.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01160.jpg I also picked up this battery tray from a guy off of ebay that is custom making these: pretty cool I thought and not bad for $45 http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC00211.jpg I also picked up an all black wilwood billet style 7/8 master cylinder and a few new trim pieces for the exterior of the car. I still am searching for a few grille pieces and after that I should have everything to make the car appear complete from the outside. My goal is to get the car looking complete on the outside by the time we move into our house so I can do all the wiring, interior in my home garage. Right now the car is still in my parents shop and I work on it when I go up there. Now that I am FINALLY almost finished with school I will be working full time and have a little more money to spend on the car to get her finished up. Next step: -finish aligning the front sheetmetal -paint the firewall -Install the LS1 -Get Ready for Lemans blue paint with Z28 Stripes slow progress...but its progress |
Nice job its all looking good.

fuel rail cover update
Here is another small update. I painted the LS1 block chevy orange, painted all the bracketry & accessories a low gloss black, and painted the fuel rail covers.
I am thinking about painting the "corvette script" orange also, but I like it silver too. What do you guys think? The intake will be painted next, it will be the aluminum paint color like thats on the fuel rail covers. I plan to port the stock throttle body this weekend, get the pan cut and sent off to be tigged. I know some people may not like the painted aluminum block, but I am going for an old school theme and I wanted something different. I will give another update once I get the covers on. I am sure having fun with this thing. :D http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01098.jpg |
Covers look nice.... I think the "corvette" in aluminum color is the best look
|
I vote to not paint the script. They look great the way they are pictured.
|
My father helped me this past weekend on my car. We got the LS1 in the camaro. There hasn't been a motor in the car in almost 8 years, so it was nice to see more of the car coming together!
Also, I installed a set of bolt in subframe connectors that I bought used off of craigslist. They needed a little welding and paint, but they are finally in. I am going back and triple checking all my bolts and hopefully before too long I can purchase a T56 for the car. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01552.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01561.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01558.jpg Next, we will get the 94' poly caprice tank re-installed. |
T56 Transmission
I just picked up a T56 6 speed out of an 02 SS Camaro with 90K. :woot:
I am excited to see this thing taking shape. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC01631.jpg After a little scrubbing! http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSCF2170.jpg I have a buddy who is going to let me take some measurements off of his crossmember so I can get one fabbed up. More updates soon! |
Very cool stuff...I'm excited for ya!! :woot:

New Seats for the 68'
New seats and seat covers!
A friend gave me a set of powered 4th gen seats and before too long these new innovator seat covers will be going on them. I love these seat covers. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC02097.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...seatcovers.jpg |
New Headers have arrived!
When I arrived home I found these on my door step! Dynatech LS1 headers!
Thanks to my discount I picked them up for $367.50! I can't wait to get them on! :D I just spoke with a guy local who is going to build my harness and do my ecm tune. Hopefully after 2 months of gathering parts and a little work we will be able to hear it run. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC02143.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC02144.jpg |
New Rear Axle
I picked a true BV coded 68' camaro 4:10 posi last night. I can't wait to get it cleaned up and painted. I now have exactly what I wanted in my drivetrain with the LS1,T56, and new 12 Bolt. :woot:
LS1 rear brakes will be my next order of business. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC02147.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/DSC02146.jpg |
Nice score!! If you still need a crossmember , I had good luck with this company for the T56.http://www.transmissioncenter.net/ra...rossmember.htm
I used it in a 67 camaro. Pretty cool part. Gonna be a nice car! Happy new year! |
More Progress...front sheetmetal on!
Made some progress on my Camaro this weekend. Two car buddies helped me get all the panels lined up. We ended up welding the passenger door to get the gaps right. Those reproduction fenders required a lot of massaging. I am sure happy with how it turned out! The gap on the fender to door were right around 0.290". Luckily we had an original sheetmetal car to take measurements from.
Next step will be blocking, blocking, and some more blocking.... Hopefully in a couple of months I will have this thing jambed in and ready for re-assembly. Going on 9 years with this car and I sure would like to see wearing some blue paint. Sorry for the I-phone pictures. I forgot to bring my digital camera. :D http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/01ff8211.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/97af30d1.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/c2d1a40b.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/0955767e.jpg |
Looking good Andrew,
I can relate, I too farm in a small town, and have been working on my car for six years:( Great to see you making some progress though. |
Today I fabbed up a steel bottom bracket for the ls1 radiator. I am going to have a friend of mine recreate the steel one I made in aluminum. I cut the factory plastic brackets off. I am going to add a cover plate for the top, clean up the fans and it should work good and look good.
Also, the 12 bolt is ready to go back in. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/46a5ff1b.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/60c73dfb.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/b3211910.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/5ad79b86.jpg |
Car prepping for paint! Ls1 getting closer!
Yesterday morning I took the car to a friends shop to help me make some final adjustments to the car. We are going to shoot the dash, firewall, and jambs at his shop and reassemble there. I am trying to keep my cost down at the painters that way they can roll it in scuff and shoot the base/clear. I am going to do the cut and buff
Myself. The t56 is going for a rebuild next week, engine should be ready to roll by the end of next week. My harness is being built by a local guy www.chevythunder.com and it should be done in a few weeks. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/560e05e8.jpg The only thing I am going to change is painting all the brackets the low gloss black and once I port the throttle body I will paint it black. |
I Jambed the car last weekend. I got the firewall and core painted this weekend. Clutch kit and slave is ordered, ls1 radiator is getting some aluminum brackets welded. T56 is going to the shop this weekend for a rebuild. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/74774274.jpg
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/38a14dbd.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/2454cf12.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/a2fc2744.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/6b1441f0.jpg |
Looks great Andrew. I like the blue you used. What is that from? Or is it a custom mix?

Here is my LS1 camaro radiator. I have little to nothing in it. I think it turned out great! A friend of mine welded up these brackets for me. I wanted something that was stout and wouldn't give me any problems in the future. This guys welding is amazing. He also added the top plate to cover the channel on the stock LS1 camaro radiator. I am using some windshield wiper rubber mounts to mount it. This is going to work great. I haven't mounted it yet. I am planning on doing that tommorow evening. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/729e3276.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/ac813f72.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/6f828f84.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/7d9a6f2b.jpg Dynatech headers fit with the stock location car shop plates! I had to pull the power steering box and reinstall but their is good clearance. I had to grind a small corner of the SBC motor mount, other than that, it is a simple fit. |
Its coming along great, I like the color. The headers look like they fit really well.
|
Great progress.

I got a few parts in that I have been dreaming about for quite some time. My dakota digital vhx gauges look awesome and I can't wait to see them lit up.
Last weekend I got my 12 bolt and LS1 brackets/backing plates installed. Tobin with Kore3 fixed me up with some new rear brake lines. Unfortuntely the salvage yard LS1 camaro rotors that came with my rear brakes are not useable, so I will be buying a new set. Once I finish up a few things with the motor I am going to start plumbing brake and fuel lines. I mocked up the kwik performance bracket. Very nice bracket and I would recommend it to anyone. I actually will be selling one that came with my new vintage air kit. My 18" V40 vintage wheel works and nitto 555's should be ready any day now, thanks to Jon at Driverz inc. I can't wait to get them on. Great company and great service. The t56 should be ready next week. I am going to convert my TH400 x-member and try to save some money instead of buying one. The S & P ones are not too impressive and the speedtech/ATS one is a bit out of my range right now. The LS1 harness and main American autowire harness is ready to be installed. I have never wired a car before and this is probably going to be my biggest challenge. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/14a10822.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/494be9cb.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/6cc76144.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/9ebe49fd.jpg |
A long 6 weeks but well worth the wait! My vintage wheel works 18" V40's w/ Nitto 555's.
I have always loved these wheels ever since I came across Carl C's 68 camaro. The car is slammed in the front! I will be adding new front springs since they are hotchkis springs that have been trimmed. They work great on stock A-arms but my tubular arms have deeper pockets and the car is too low. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/4d0b2957.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/01cf5211.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...i/07c2ebb7.jpg |
