67 Mustang Fastback
HI guys ,
My first post i am building a 1967 390 s code 67 fastback ,car has been in Australia about 12 years when i purchased it ,it was in a sad state it had been repainted various times its original colour is silver frost . Have no history of its past life but someone at sometime had laid it to rest with 3 45 caliber rounds ,so i consider this its resurection . The rebuild so far . Full body rebuild and repainted brilliant silver with argent silver lemans stripes.coil over front and rear suspension TCP 4 link rear . 330 mm front discs with late model spindles and 4 spot calipers .Engine is a 390 FE with a 4.125 stroke Scat crank H beam rods diamond flat top pistons 433 cu in . Edelbrock heads with Dove tunnel wedge manifold running a F&B TRI POWER fuel injection setup with a FAST XFI management .Engine is being assembled and waiting on manifold to arrive from USA . Will post some photos on progress. |

Killer project... welcome! :lateral:
FETorino is gonna love you.... he'll find this thread soon. :unibrow: |
Yeah FE Torino found me on FE power forum another great sight . Like all of us i have tried to make the car something different especially with the Tri Power. You guys have some awesome builds .

Tri Power
Manifold will run 3x600 cfm throttle bodies with a progressive linkage . I have been told that on the 440 mopars that F&B have fitted this system too that they are very drivable .With the centre throttle body bringing in the torque earlier .As far as tuning it i hope the XFI FAST will bring this engine to life . Trans is a TKO 600 with 3.5 diff gears . As far as the Tunnel wedge manifold there were concerns with air speed but since it is fuel injected it should work OK. As you can see it has a large plenum what do you guys think .Car should have some under bonnet appeal with Cobra Lemans valve covers ,and a polished oval aircleaner when it all comes together i will post more photos .

Of course I love the car but I'm an FE Ford guy. Of course I don't know how anybody couldn't like the early Mustangs.:D
That TW would work fine even with carbs. The FAST system should make it very drivable as long as you know how to tune with it. What are you going to run for wheels and tires? :_paranoid Which TKO do you have the .82 or .64 5th gear. If you haven't bought the TKO yet I'd think hard about which one to buy. I'd say the .82 5th makes more sense. The one comment I'd make is with the OD 5th I'd go for a deeper rear gear unless you are running a really short rear tire. |
The TKO 600 has the .82 O/drive ,Wheels are Edelbrock 17x8 all round styled on the cobra wheels .Tyres are currently 245 x17 .I have had a change of heart with the wheels and when the time is right $$$$ i would like to purchase a set of TEAM 3 LT iii minilights in 17x8 and 17x10 and fit rubber to suit . Because there was a change in the build and fitting the 4 link there is a lot more room with the leaf springs gone , plus the HP expected from the initial build has increased somewhat . My engine builder is up to speed with these systems having built a twin turboed 408 Windsor in a 67 Fastback ,plus i had a Twin charged 1.8 litre nissan sunny running a supercharger and a large turbo for its capacity so i have had some time with a WOLF 3D injection setup .

Some further progress with the Tri power.

Manifold and Fast EFI will take 2 weeks to arrive in Australia .I have been impressed with F&B ,Bruce has gone out of his way to make this build happen i would highly recommend him . When it all arrives the fun begins .My son is fabricating a 20 gal fuel tank for the car with internal baffles and pod for intank pump.Futher work on the engine build has been slowed waiting on T&D roller rockers and lifters .Cylinder heads have been stripped to allow some minor porting and valve spring change to suit the Comp cam.All parts are here for the short block so hope to see the engine completed for the New year .

Great project, good looking car, nice choice of wheels and induction.
|
A gorgeous '67-'68 Stang and a beauty and beast of a motor...wow.
|
Nice to see you getting closer to getting that Stang done.
The T&Ds are worth the wait. Can't wait to see how the motor runs.:D |

Oh yeah! Now there's TWO Ford guys on here. :faint:  |

He may even put a Ford motor in his! :wow: :woot: |

I don't know why Todd doesn't talk him into having Pettis build him a stroked Windsor. The Pettis web site is littered with high hp windsor strokers. |
Great looking project. And there can never be enough FE's.
Rob has a secret plan to outnumber the Camaros, on the lateral G forums, with Fords ;) |
Rob would have to do a lot of recruiting to acheive that .But it is great to see so many people with the common interests of good muscle cars whatever make.

Love the induction on that motor. I really hope it works out well for you.
Welcome to the site! |
Tri Power
Received some great news today that the complete system has been shipped and should arrive in AUS on the 26th this month .This will allow a lot of work to progress setting up the FAST ECU and all the wiring , plumbing the car with the fuel system ,will have to see my son to start the build on the custom fuel tank ,great to have a sheet metal worker in the family as well as a panel beater without them i would be lost . Lastly i would like to thank Bruce @ F&B for his great effort in developing something unique for a FE Ford .Not a easy task when the only correspondance is by phone and email.
This guy has gone out of his way with this build and i would recomend his services any day . I am just waiting for the roller rockers and lifters for this engine build to be complete . |
Are you planning a dyno session once it's together?:D
|
Tri Power build
Rob at this time i don't have the $$$$ to carry out a engine dyno .The intentions are to get it on the road and then to a chassis dyno .My engine builder built a 408 Windsor with twin turbo's for his 67 Fastback and has had some time setting up the EFI systems for it ,he recently moved premises and the engine dyno room has not been setup , hopefully the FAST system should'nt pose to many problems . Sadly we don't have a Jay Brown close buy.Hopefully the rest of the rocker gear will arrive soon which will allow the build to be completed .
|
Yea I wish Jay was around the corner instead of 1900 mi north east of here.:faint: It was a pretty cool road trip for me to head to his place. :D
You running a hydro roller? What kind of specs? did you go with the full tilt T&D or thier new lighter duty version? Chassis dyno will get it done for tuning. |
Cam Specs
Camshaft is a Comp hydraulic roller. One of Barry R's grinds .Not expecting to spin it too hard 6200 6500 and will have T&D street roller's to suit the Edelbrock heads .Aiming for 10.8 - 11.00 -1 compression . Looking at 500 plus hp still a bit of a unknown with the Tri power and how it all will work ,can you work out estimated HP ? 433 cu in , port matched the heads with the tunnel wedge ,running flat top Diamond pistons . The T&D rockers i have been told today i won't see till the end of the month .

The roller rockers finally arrived and the engine build is finished ,will pick up Saturday i will post some photos .once the engine gearbox and the new fuel tank are in it is off to the exhaust shop . What do you guys recomend for mufflers ,i have to keep it quite due to the law taking exception to modified cars .I have found the younger drift scene is making it difficult for the Hotrodding and modified car scene .

Mark that looks sweet.:wow:
Give these guys some more eye candy. Throw up a build thread with some pictures of the car. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psf9fba743.jpg  |

As long as you have Crocodile skin! You know -- I was going to make some "anti" Ford statement... always trying to be funny and light hearted.... and then I realized that my track car is a Ford - I have a '32 Ford Roadster and I'm having a '33 Ford built. I think I just now figured that out! :wow: :wow: Here's a shot of how my track car was set up -- noticed you're using similar struts in your build. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...%20car/016.jpg |
Yes they are simular something my son and i built on a Saturday morning. we have a local shop who specialise in building speedway cars and are Afco parts dealers they are a good source of rod ends and threaded alloy tube .Once the engine and radiator are fitted i will mke up the front bar .I am waiting on a AFCO dual pass radiator and will run some twin electric fans from a local falcon.Still plenty of work ahead , all the wiring , and running fuel lines once the exhaust is finished.Rob it looks great i am wrapped with it's visual appeal the FE motors dress up well . Can't wait for the day when we fire it up .

Made some more progress with the build engine and gearbox are now in .Fitting extractors and have to clearance valve cover with the master cylinder. Have a few shots more to come .
|
Right on Mark. You are on the home stretch. Did you use the back up in the air trick?
 |
Rob
I fitted the engine first and then the gearbox ,did'nt want to risk banging it up. I have to do some work on the drivers side as the master cylinder intrudes into the valve cover ,should'nt be too much of a issue .Had a bit of a delay fitting engine as i had to have all the brake lines fabricated .Braided lines from master cylinder down to the brake bias valve ,from there braided to front calpers and new stainless line to the rear ,brake guy did a top job . Tomorrows day will be fitting starter motor and extractors not a lot of room fitting a FE in a 67 mustang . My son is folding up the new fuel tank for it on Saturday about 85 litres should give some good cruising range with the distances we can travel .It will be baffled and i am fitting a intank pump with a surge pot built around the pump, once this is fitted off to have exhaust system finished .Will post more photos as i complete the work and as you say on the home straight .
