Making room under the rear fenders of a 2nd Gen F-body
I have seen Brian Hobaugh's answer to making more room for the suspension travel when using wide tires on a 2nd Gen F-body. Very nice work there.
Since this is primarily a street car, I'd like to see what else is out there and to get advice from those who have done it. I want to keep the muscle car look and not make it so obvious the fenders have been stretched. Any links or advice from someone who has done this will be appreciated. My wheel centers are cut so I need to get this done to get backspacing measurements to get the wheels finished. The car has been tubbed with an AME frame installed. So we plenty of room under the car but bringing the wheels out nearer to the lip of the fender results in massive clearance issues with suspension travel. |
Look at some of the pictures of DSE's 2nd gen, they just widened the front of it for BIG tires up front.

Ok I know I saw some in someone's pictures from Vegas but this is the only one I can find right now. Not the best shot and no details but if you compair it to a stock fender you can see what the did. I think I looks very nice and not over the top in the picture. If you look on Optimas Facebook page there is a couple of other shots you can see from different views.

We did a 1 1/2" stretch on the White 72RS that allowed us to tuck the rear down without issues (315X18 no mini-tube on springs).... If you look closely the mid-body line flares from the door to the wheel well opening and the whole quarter is the stretched out ...
Makes room for a wider stance and provides room for extra clearance you're looking for.... http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a.../project3a.jpg http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/72RSRear.jpg http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/a...hiteCamaro.jpg |

I am sure we would all love to see some pics of the process if you have them. I was just discussing this with my uncle this past weekend.

Unfortunately we really did a poor job of photo documenting that portion of the build I'm sorry.... I know it required a lot of patience and really is great for the clearance...
I am considering taking a splash off these quarters for an upcoming one piece composite Camaro shell that I'll commence building in the Spring all things equal... |
What are your goals for the car? 305's in the back and 275's up front are very doable with stock sheet metal. I am fitting up some tires that are the equivalent of 355 p metrics all around and its going to take much less work than I had initially thought.

The front is a whole other conundrum... |
I have an art morrison max g chassis in my trans am, 19x10 fronts and 19x12 rears, the biggest problem in our cars isnt fitting the tires, but the rear quarter lips have a steep angle on them, so you cant go that low if you plan to have the wheels sit out near the edge without modifying the lip of the quarter
