Would the baddest ’69 Camaro on the planet have an LS engine? I think so…
So I just received the latest ‘Camaro Performers’ mag in the mail and noticed that the cover car has one bad-azz ’69 Camaro, and the subtitle says ‘this just might be the baddest ’69 camaro on he planet’ … it may just be…it definitely has the design, paint, interior, wheels, originality, etc… but one thing in particular caught my attention … while looking at the specs I read that this car has a non-ls 383 stroker. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of the classic 383 stroker, I have one myself and I love it. I am also a huge fan of this car, no doubt that it’s bitchin… but imo the baddest ’69 on the planet should have the latest and greatest in engine performance. It is obviously a matter of preference what engine is best for your car, but knowing that the LS is the most efficient, most powerful engine GM has to offer, I would have to imagine that the baddest ’69 Camaro on the planet should at least have one.

I've seen the title "baddest '69 Camaro" given to about 6 cars now. It's an opinion just like anything else. For my two pennies, the baddest '69 has a big block Chevy in it, red paint, and gold wheels. It does racing stuff sometimes.

Sure LS are efficient and bst bang for buck, cheap to build, plentiful yada yada. BUT they are becoming commonplace. I am seeing everything with LS engines on car shows and get togethers. SEMA had 50k cars with LS engines. It is not entirely a bad thing, opens the doors to more products which in turn (theoretically) should help lower their cost.
The cost of building or rebudiling a 350, 383 or 400 block is hard to compare when youc na have bigger gains on a cheapo ls and light alum block. LS are greta and all but they are becoming too common. I have two projects with LS engines, and honestly struggled with the idea on turning one into a LS setup but was hard to pass doing a swap for virtually free, compared to building a 400 Pontiac engine to get to a similar level. Will be cool to see more cars going back to roots engine builds, or heck even seeing matchig numbers cars racing. |
I'll have to check out the magazine to see the car in question.

I've thought about going solid roller on the LT1 just for the fun of it too. Solid roller cams are fun for getting people's attention. Dave, do you agree, lol? To me and others, sound is a huge part of what makes a muscle car/hot rod. I guess it's just another way to back up the image or theme of the car. I remember Bob Johnson(GForce Cuda) saying that when talking about why he chose to put big inch Aluminum engines in some of his Camaros. It wasn't just about the power. A 500+ inch big block just has a powerful sound to it. I'm sure Todd will agree with that opinion. |

I was thinking cars driven both on the street and track so the baddest '69 that came to mind was this one.
The ZL-1 powered '69 that Todd built and just sold was the next one I thought of. One LS and one non-LS seems fair. :cool: |
