1967 Corvette at Roadster Shop

With all the latest RS updates it only makes sense to start a new thread on this '67 which arrived a few months ago and has seen some pretty major reconstruction. It can sometimes be easy to forget just how much work can go into a fiberglass car to either modify or bring it back to life with correct gaps, bodylines etc. (You can't hammer and dolly a fiberglass fender or run pieces through a shrinker/stretcher!)

Plans for the car are a fairly mild, factory appearing exterior, enlarged rally style rims and traditional color palette. It will be receiving a FAST TRACK C2 Corvette IRS Chassis, and plans for an LS7 drivetrain.

The car as arrived:

Gorgeous as always!

A few color options and an idea of how the wheels will look:

With the chassis done, work commences on the body. Peeling back the outer layers, reveals quite a bit of prior body damage, cracks, cavities etc.

Fab on the rearward floor and trans tunnel. (NB: we dont normally do the mini-trucker grinder treatment on our sheetmetal: in this case, it's to give the sheetmetal 'tooth' and help the bonding of the new glass!)

Red is always a great Corvette color....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...tte/file-3.jpg

But then again -- my first one was Silver....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...vette/file.jpg

But then again -- an Ermine white coupe looks clean....
Steve Frisbee painted this in lacquer in a two car garage 30 years ago... It still only has 34K original miles

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...tte/file-2.jpg

But I've had Blue that I liked too....

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...tte/file-7.jpg

The only yellow on a Corvette has to be factory Sunfire Yellow... black stinger...

GregWeld 01-10-2013 07:42 PM

Or have your client look at Eeny Meany....

I love the white with red stinger or black with red stinger!

that's awesome Greg!
I vote blue

GregWeld 01-10-2013 08:34 PM

I'm with you Kevin! Blue -- just like the rendering. Regardless of whatever the client chooses -- he's going to have an AWESOME quality build!

Sieg 01-10-2013 08:56 PM

Chris somehow I don't think the word "can't" is heard too often around your shop.

Once again another impressive RS project.

Nice collection over the years Weld! I see a trend... Possibly your next car?

Stielow is on his 15th Camaro so you have some catching up to do!

The original Marina Blue was my favorite, but I think that the customer is leaning towards the pale Sunfire Yellow.

The glasswork has been a pain on this car. it was filled with previous repairs everywhere you look. I think that I counted 40+ cracks and repairs on the front nose alone. A few months worth of work and it is now back to a clean stating point!

GregWeld 01-11-2013 09:31 AM

It's going to be absolutely killer! Modern RS chassis -- modern power... and the undeniable good looks of a classic Corvette!

Sunfire yellow black stinger -- black interior.... classic!

Will it have N14 side exhaust?? Maybe a custom set of RS versions?

Very nice build Chris. What's the plan for the fabbed cylindrical pockets in the floor kickup behind the driver and passenger seats.

Lookin good Jay. Are those your rides?

We were thinking about machining a custom set of wheels to get the proportions of the center cap in line with the larger diameter wheel. We will see where the budget is to make the final decision. i do like the redlines though.

I like the yellow with black stinger, but don't know about the white interior.

Great cabin on those.

Is it just me, or did Chevy make every Corvette interior progressively worse after the C2's?

214Chevy 01-15-2013 07:48 AM

Blue paint with a black stinger for me.

Large diameter ralley wheels always look a little out of proportion. How about some custom larger alloy's that look like the original knock-offs?
