335/30/20 vs 345/25/20

Alright, so i just ordered my wheels and they should be here in about a month and I'm really torn about tire size! The wheel sizes are as follows:

20x12 rear
19x8 front

The car is a 69 Camaro, that has been minitubbed with DSE tubs and running a Speedtech torque arm rear and their road assault package in the front. The car is going to have a nice low stance. So as the title says, what do you guys think, 345/25/20's or 335/30/20's?! I'm worried that the 345's are a little to rubber bandish, and the 335's are a little to tall and I won't be able to get the right ride height! The front tire will be a 245/35/19 (Full front subframe for a wider tire wasn't in the budget unfortunately).

Obviously, pics go a long way ;)! I did a search but didn't find to many running the above combo's!

By the way, wheels are the brand new Hot Rods by Boyd 2 piece billet HR99's with Charcoal center and polished lip. I dealt with Chris Coddington and the customer service was nothing short of incredible, and the wheels should be here in 3 to 4 weeks. I will be sure to post up pictures when they arrive!

245/35/19 = 25.75"OD (3.4" sidewall)

335/30/20 = 27.9"OD (4" sidewall)

345/25/20 = 26.8"OD (3.4" sidewall

As you can see above if you base it on your front tire size you have 3.4" sidewall and approx 25.75" overall height. With the 1" diameter larger rear tire you want to carry at a MINIMUM the same sidewall (relating to 1" taller rear tire).

The 345/25/20 matches the front tire perfectly!

However it depends on the look you want to go for. An approx 28" rear tire is pretty sall, so will give the car the "stuffed" look. It's over an inch taller than the other rear tire option and 2 inches taller than the front! Again depends on the look you're going for.

If it were me, I'd go the 345/25/20. You get the additional width (just less than 1/2" wider) which is always a good thing and it matches the front perfectly.

I'm going with 18/19 combo on mine, but for reference you can see us test fitting a 345/25/20 on my car so you can get an idea of the aspect ratio (sidewall).

Good luck!

That's a 345 20 in the picture?

will69camaro 11-06-2013 11:19 PM

Yes. I have a full Rez picture that you can read the size on. We just test fit it for the width.

st83 11-08-2013 06:44 PM

Well, after a lot of thought... I'm still not sold on one or the other! I'm pretty sure I'll be going with 345/25/20. Does anybody know if these will fit within the DSE mini tubs, or will more mods be required? Anybody have any experience running this tire size?

will69camaro 11-08-2013 09:49 PM

Mine pictured above is DSE tubs and notched frame.

Should fit no problem if you get offset in wheels right!

st83 11-09-2013 11:26 AM

I should be good on the offset... I ordered 7" of backspacing. I ordered the wheels before my rearend so I can get them mocked up and measure out what I need for rear end width. I just got to remember the measure twice rule haha!

Alright, so the wheels finally arrived! My hats off to Chris Coddington and Hot Rods by Boyd! Took about a month and a half from when I ordered them till I got them and that includes a delay at the border, and the Christmas holidays! Ended up going with 6" backspacing in rear, 4.75" in front... 20x12 and 19x8 front:

Haha there's a very good possibility it is, but I'm going to have to claim ignorance on that! The gf gets the house, and I ask no questions, and I get the garage and she asks none... It's a good compromise in my opinion lol!

We have the same rule except I add the TV room as my domain. A man's gotta watch sports in comfort. No girlie stuff :poke:

Now if I had a TV room in the garage I might sleep out there :D

I just trained her to only speak during commercials, understand that anything told to me during a sporting event (especially football, or hockey!) will be promptly forgotten, and why "snuggling" and sports don't go together.... so for now I'm putting up with the girlie stuff till I get my own room lol!

I am having the same problem on what combo to use. I want the taller tire and I want the space on the right and left side of the tire filled up. I want the suffed look but I want it to look somewhat equal to the front in regards to tire size and look.

Do you have any photos of the car above setting on the ground? While on the ground did the wheels go up further inside?

Thanks.

I will try and get some more soon. My car will hopefully be out of the painter today and we're going to see about setting ride height and trying out some wheels with same tire. I will post as soon as I get more info. You guys are the first to receive the updates I post!

I want the stuffed look also so looking forward to ordering my own wheels/tires when I get it figured out fully. Hoping to get a hold of Anvil so I can get diff front inners and run 285 fronts :)

I haven't mounted the tires yet... But as soon as I do and get them mocked into place I'll be sure to post up pictures!

st83 01-11-2014 05:27 PM

I'm wondering... I want to go with a 255/35/19 tire in the front, but most tire manufactures recommend a 8.5 - 10 inch rim and my fronts are 8". Anybody run that tire size on an 8" rim? Will it fit, and look normal, ie no weird bulge on the sidewall or anything?
