Dyno'd my stock LS2 today..

The STOCK LS2 with the stock heads, intake, cam and all that was hooked up to the engine dyno today.

Only "upgrades" were some Hooker 1 3/4" long tube headers since we had no way to hook up the stock exhaust manifolds.

After some tuning we made 462HP .. this on a motor that's rated at 400hp..

Then we took off the Hooker headers and bolted on the 1 7/8 stepped race headers from 21st Century Street Machines ..

472hp! :wow:

Picking up 10hp from a header swap is great.. and we lost nothing on the top end. the 21st Cen headers gained from about mid pull all the way to the top..

Then we bolted on some AFR 205 heads and will make that pull in the AM. After that the cam then the FAST intake..

Anyone wanna guess the final number? :)

<-- happy camper

rocketrod 05-04-2006 08:35 PM

Well I don't have a guess, but I am sure you will have a permanent smile on your face! :D :D :D The numbers are already very impressive!

srh3trinity 05-04-2006 08:36 PM

That is impressive to say the least, 72 HP over the rating. What is on the agenda as far as engine mods that will be used for the final product?

Sales@Dutchboys 05-04-2006 08:40 PM

Sweet setup...Great work...

The rating from GM is with all the accesories attached, like alternator, water pump, PS pump and AC. Also with airfilter.

Anyway the numbers are impressive.

What kind of tuning did you do Steve?

Jan

importkiller69ss 05-05-2006 01:12 AM

hp guess

328 he already man 472 ...im guessing about 150 more than what you got

ProdigyCustoms 05-05-2006 04:46 AM

I am a bit surprised and impressed

black2002ls 05-05-2006 06:45 AM

LSX engines are notorious for dynoing higher than their rated HP. There are several F-body guys around my town who have had their stock camaro's dyno'd and they are pulling 20 to 30 hp more at the rear wheels than GM's rating

You sure? After all they sell the LS2 without accesories and rate it at 400hp.. I am pretty sure engines are rated at crank horsepower..

Anyways, the accesories eat up very little hp in a modern car.

Just a basic tune to get it running. got the AF right and put the hammer down. The Superflow dyno uses a FAST ECU.

Yea, my 320hp 2000 Camaro SS dynoed at 310rwhp in stock form.. lol.. just a tad under rated..

markss28 05-05-2006 08:35 AM

I will have to say 545hp at the crank. Pretty sure it will. I say who ever comes closest gets to go with PHR to the 2006 SEMA all expenses paid. On Steve. Either that or a big block out of Penny.

AFR 205 heads (larger valves, double springs, Ti retainers)
FAST 90mm intake
COMP 230/232 114+12 cam
21st Century Street Machine stepped race headers (already on engine)

Steve-
Any general ballpark guesstimate on the total MSRP for the exact engine package you'll have together there?

~SP~

Payton King 05-05-2006 09:32 AM

I guess...

560 with Jason. I have seen LS1's (346 ci) with about the same stuff make 450 rwhp and you loose about 85 to 95 hp through the drivetrain...more with fat rear tires and a 9 inch ford. Does not your car have a Dana 60?

560-565 on the motor and 455 at the wheels.

Is that right on your cam 114 +12? 12 degrees advanced? I would have guessed 114 +2. Mine is ground on a 110 straight up and installed 2 advanced.

Steve I was refering to the engines in cars, like the under rated Camaros. GM couldn't let the Corvette buyers have the same amount as the Camaro.

Here in Sweden it was even funnier, The Camaro's HP rating for the authorities was RWHP. For those who doesn't know that, they think the Camaro is a weak car, yeah right

Your results are interesting, my LS1 will get about the same modifications, i.e. long tube headers and better airfilter. 400 wouldn't be far fetched I beleive.

Wow-
A little homework turned up some suprising numbers...suprising to me anyway.

LS2 engine- Approx. $7,500
GM Wiring Harness for LS2- $750
GM ECM for LS2- $1,500

Total mods:

AFR 205 heads (larger valves, double springs, Ti retainers)- $2,300
FAST 90mm intake- $870
COMP 230/232 114+12 cam- $350
21st Century Street Machine stepped race headers (already on engine)- $2,100

$15,370?

Am I close?

Dang.

~SP~

MarkM66 05-05-2006 01:17 PM

You can get the LS2 for about $5500. Not sure what shipping would be though.

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...61-P929C2.aspx

My guess after the mods; 525.

Diognes56 05-05-2006 01:36 PM

Nice :D . I can't wait to see what it does with the mods, I am with the other guys 540-560 at the crank. This just makes me want one even more  .

No.. LS2 engine is only $5500 :P

ECU and harness is not as expensive as you listed.. the cheapest route is to find a pull out LS2 with eletronics from a wrecked car..

Todds69 05-05-2006 08:28 PM

Sweet!!! :unibrow: Oh by the way, I thought you were putting a LS7 in Penny? Or is this for something else, or maybe I am screwy in the head.

Datsbad 05-05-2006 09:22 PM

damn i was close. is this SAE or STD corrected?

Yes you were.. those are corrected, but the weather was good so the correction factor was low..

Ha.. no way GM was giving me an LS7.. I did write a story on a LS7 though..

Datsbad 05-05-2006 09:42 PM

those are good numbers . I was going to say 570 and then went back and changed it to 560 .

thats cool . good bang for the buck !!

slownova 05-05-2006 10:11 PM

what throttle body did you go with? stock? also what maf, or are you using speed density? good numbers. what did u use to tune it with?

Beast2831 05-08-2006 02:07 AM

565 hp...Good to go!

jeff s 05-09-2006 09:26 PM

Steve,
what reluctor wheel count did that engine have?
WHat's the correction factor used?
Thanks

Payton King 05-11-2006 06:41 AM

numbers

Get down with your bad self! 470ish at the wheels in a 3000 lbs car is going to be fun. It will probably feel a little underpowered after the big block that was in it.

Great Numbers!
