Weld's new "Shed"
Okay -- since the original post was lost in the server swap.... I'll repost this so that you guys will have reference for "before" and "after".... so here goes.
The new shop building... which was bank owned. The shop has TWO 16' high doors that are both 14' wide. Perfect for using the far right door/bay for the semi rig parking. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5399.jpg The main floor is 5250 square feet... so that ought to work our just fine! But it's dirty -- and lots of stuff on the walls that will be cleaned up -- and power that I can't use (480Volt 3 phase!)... So the electricians were in first - cleaning up and making safe. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5396.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5395.jpg This area under the upstairs will be my new "tool area".... it has heated floors!! Sweet!! It's 14' wide and 43' long -- so plenty of room for my stuff. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5392.jpg This building was last used to refinish doors -- so they had big sanders and a spray refinishing area ---- EVERYWHERE was sawdust and lacquer residue... so it took a bit to clean that up. They power washed EVERY SQUARE INCH -- including the ceiling and all the truss system - and then they washed the floor 4 times! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...ilding/W29.jpg AND then this was the upstairs "office" --- what a nasty dark horrible dump that had to be to work in!! OMG just awful! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5109.jpg |
They gutted that horrible office ---- we added a couple windows in the walls overlooking the shop -- they'll open and the exterior window to the outside will be replaced with a window that opens as well.
http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5385.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5386.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5381.jpg The exterior wall (shop side) will get "barn wood" and a "eyebrow" shed roof over the windows made from corrugated galvanized steel. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5398.jpg When they put stuff back ---- I post up pictures. This IS NOT a car showroom --- it is not a "collectors" storage building.... This is a WORKING shed... the hobby to me is building and doing.... so it's not going to be done all fancy and pretty. It will be done with function over beauty... but on the other hand I'll also have some fun with portions of it. I did acquire a couple "scale/size" appropriate signs with the new spare in mind.... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5377.jpg |
Oh good, you posted this up again. We live vicariously thru you.
Someday I hope to have a big boy shed. |

Those big neon signs are kewl. |

"Jody already has me buying the vacant lot out back and remodeling the building... Just shoot me"
Is the lot behind your building big enough for a small test track?? |

First Bank of Weld.... Found the neon on FleaBay -- noticed the seller was very near me so sent him an email as I wanted to see the Mobil in person... turns out he has a store so went to check it out. Also turns out that he was needing some cash flow. NOW WE'RE TALKIN' -- as I am more than happy to help with that regard... ended up with the Mobil and the Nash. Called my moving company and the next day they're at my house instead of his store. Quote:
Well here's the deal Jerry.... the building is on a "circle" with no stop signs... and there's nothing happening in this little commercial area after about 5 in the afternoon. So I'm thinking.... I pretty much have the whole neighborhood as a test track! |

I went back through the pictures a couple of times and was looking for the stripper pole. Did I miss that somewhere?
Place just looks outstanding! |
When I stopped by this morning on my way out of town --- half the trades in the valley were at the shop working.... LOL
Okay -- Well I knew you'd all be waiting -- so after a 10 hour drive.... I'll post up the photos of the paint going on - and the new sheetrock in the upstairs area. THE BLUE will be painted MAT BLACK.... but one thing at a time okay!?!? http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5451.jpg The lower part of this wall -- get's 10' high (tall) corrugated steel floor to to the 10' mark... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5453.jpg Sheetrock going on upstairs AND the storage loft area walls painted... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5454.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5455.jpg The new shop doors are on order -- and they'll be 2" thick insulated --- and at the 10' level they'll have glass for some natural light.... They'll be overhead doors == not these roll ups -- but will still have side mounted motors. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_5457.jpg So just in case you forgot here's a BEFORE PAINT pic..... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...IMG_5104-1.jpg |
If it was mine....I'd put in a BigAss fan, a neat lil dust collection system, some barn wood and, mmm, a black toilet! :lmao:
It's looking good and movin right along, did you really buy the lot behind you? Dan |
THE DOGGIE IS HAVING FUN :walkingdog: AND I LIKE THE BLUE AGAINST THE BLACK OR DARK BROWN WALLS
|
One thing appears certain........Stella's having a good time there. :D

No --- but if you saw the cul d'sac and the curved driveway and the "motor court" (I'd call it a f'n turnaround) at the house.... I'm thinking a guy could charge up the driveway - drift the turn around - charge back down the driveway and drift the cul d'sac and head right back up! I mentioned this idea to Gwen today ..... she said "I wouldn't put it past you...." To me --- that's tacit approval!!! |

Big Ass Fan has caused a lot of study I can tell ya! Welder is coming to weld in "I-beam" for it.... up in the trusses. The 3rd new infrared heater is being re-oriented in order to make room for it... which actually works out really well.... The barn wood will be up next week... and the toilet isn't BLACK --- it's appropriately named THUNDER grey. This is a must as it has to match the barn wood and the corrugated steel (galvanized). One must have just a hint of color. AND NO! I did not buy the lot in back. I really have no need for it -- and to date - Charley hasn't told me I need it. |
Quote:
Have you seen an Idaho (I da HO!) stripper..... I think they could just use the H beams. |

very nice Greg, looks like it will hold allot of stuff.
How many members are close by? |
Quote:
It will give me a bit more space than I have now -- but not all that much more considering I'll be parking the rig in there. So it's maybe DOUBLE what I have now which I could really use... but it's not like OMG wow look at all this space. I can add a couple critical tools I've wanted but didn't have room for.... I think there are ZERO members near me -- but there are MANY MANY hot rodders / car people in the Sun Valley area.... |

When will you be accepting reservations?

That just gives a whole new meaning to.... <insert something derogatory here> LOL I didn't think there was such a thing as a messed up "rat rod" --- but now I know better. Thanks for sharing! LOL |
Horrendously disconfigured is an understatement for that thing.

I'm not giving him my forwarding address..... Lenie -- the Shed looks big -- until I put all the stuff in it. I've been measuring and it's amazing that I really won't have all that much "extra" room! Sad actually. With the rig in the far bay -- that takes 1000 square feet all by itself! Then - this has a bathroom - which my current shop doesn't - and has a "reception area" - again I don't have in my current shop.... The big difference for me is that I can put the two race cars "in line" over next to the rig and still have lots of room to go in and out - and in fact - because of the "depth" of the building (68 feet) I can line up 3 cars like that and be able to go in and out. That's the one HUGE plus for me because now I have to move 'em around to get to one. Not a big deal when the weather is nice - but as you know living here - there's lots of days I'm NOT pushing cars outside just to move one. Since I don't use the race cars except to go racing - I can service them and then either put them back in the trailer -- or line them up out of my way. <insert happy dance here> My best friends just bought a condo in SV... but it doesn't have a garage... and of course - they're not moving over (yet)... and he's already asked me if he can "store" his p/u in the shed while they're not there... and that's what happens... The good news is - it's a "beater" and can be left outside if I need the space. |
