Got my engine back finally

I had a piston oil groove issue. The oil ring groove on the piston was too narrow according to Weisco who custom made them. They made me a new set, switched to a Comp solid roller and got it back in. No more oil fouling the plugs and a batman smoke screen :D . Engine runs excellent. Made 440 hp@ 5400, 475@6400 and 442@7400. Made great torque for a 355 ci - 458 lbs @4300.

I know you are happy

Now drive that thing down to Charlotte so I can have a look or better yet, a ride.

Did Wiseco take care of you, Jay?

Jay Hilliard 06-07-2006 07:30 AM

Payton,

I plan on doing that in the near future. I need to get back up with Kyle and see about him installing my vintage air, so that would be a good time to check out your progress also.

Jay Hilliard 06-07-2006 07:34 AM

Yes they did Scott. I sent the pistons to them and they acknowledged it was too narrow by just a few thousands, which thats all it takes sometimes. It took about a month for them to check them and make me new ones.

I would have liked a little faster turn around, but I was very pleased they actually admitted it was their mistake and resolved my issue. Because of their customer service, I would buy again from them, because we all make mistakes.

Its a DSE Closeout panel. Jay, what did you use to clean it up? I haven't installed mine because I haven't decided whether or not I want to powder coat it or polish it up a bit. What did you end up doing to remove the tooling marks and get that "brushed" finish?

Jay Hilliard 06-14-2006 07:11 PM

I used scotchbrite pads to give it a brushed look. I started with a medium grit pad (burgandy color) and finished with fine pad (grey). I did it by hand and went with the grain.

Alot of hand rubbing got most of the major tooling marks out. Then I cleaned it with mothers aluminum polish. I eventually plan on clearing over the aluminum. Its not a major pain to to clean it with the Mother's polish though.

Jayweb....anytime you want to. You may get the fever again though. :unibrow: :D
