Ironworks Project - "Lowered Budget" 1967 Camaro with blown LS3, DSE, HRE wheels
Here is a project we have been working on for a while and the concept has really turned out pretty nice. I have always hated working with stock subframes on the Camaros as they hang down below the rocker a mile it seems. Well I had a customer come in that liked the idea of sucking the subframe up into the floor of the car to fix this issue and doing the exact same thing in rear. ( Not as easy as it sounds ) Basically we channeled the body of the car over the suspension all the while keeping alot of the floor stock. It still uses stock seat mounts and has the DSE subframe connectors. The car has 275-18's on the front and 325/19 HRE wheels front and rear.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20002.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20004.jpg With this picture you can see we did not give up any ground clearance its just made everything more compressed into the car. If this was my car it would be lacking of foot room for my big ass size 15 feet. But the car is really perfect for the customer. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...14-2014003.jpg SO the engine was moved up with the subframe into the body and made it pretty close for the last minute addition of an Edelbrock supercharger. We were able to get the engine under a smoothed SS hood with the reworking of the under hood structure. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ine-bay-02.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...2015%20007.jpg After performing this Body mod I guess you would say, It kind of makes all other 1st gen Camaros seem like monster trucks.... any pics of the process?

Cool! That's a great way to deal with creating the clearance!!

Bad Ass!!
|
Awesome job, guys!
|
Do you have anymore pictures of the process?
|
How much clearance did you end up with supercharger to hood looks like it would be close. Do you think there will heat problems being so close to the hood? Oh and you guys are always on the cutting edge of Badassness!:king:

Thanks guys. We are only as good as the customer will allow us to be. As much as this car is pretty simple we hope to make it stand out in a crowd. Its the little things you don't see that make it stand out. We probably have 3/4 of an inch of clearance on the hood. I don't know what there would be to worry about as far as heat with the super charger. Its not packaged any tighter then say a new Camaro or Corvette. |

This picture shows the transmission crossmember that is now mounted to the body of the car. And welds to the recess subframe mounts. It allows for exhaust clearance and such. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-4-2014003.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-4-2014002.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-4-2014001.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...10-2014005.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...10-2014004.jpg The finished product with the Tr06060 Shifter mount built into the floor. With a short MGW shifter isnt really not the much taller then a stock shifter. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...30-2014015.jpg |
I like this idea and looks like you guys are pulling it off just right!
