Tilt wheel in a gen 1 camaro? Worth extra coin?
Hey guys, I was thinking of getting a tilt aluminum column for the camaro but it's gonna be kinda expensive. I don't have a problem getting in my car or driving with the stock column so I was wondering if it's worth the extra coin. I'm changing my steering box anyway so if I don't change the column I'm gonna take it out and paint the old one. What do you guys think?

I put a tilt column in my chevelle, for what it's worth, and the adjustability to get the wheel down where I want it to be comfortable was worth the effort. Plus I can move it on down to see my gauges better. Hope this helps you in some way... |
I used a steering column from a wrecking yard and thoroughly inspected it, shortened it to the length I needed, shaved the automatic shifter and installed it. A total of $65 bucks invested. I did one for someone else and charged them $150 including the column so mine was basically free.
Anything can be done with a little want and know how, no high dollars needed. |

I'm 6' and 220# My buddy's 69 I did for him is 5'9 and 160# and having tilt is great for both of us.
Every car i build I go Tilt wheel and worth every penny plus. I like the factory GM tilts the best. |
Dang I guess I should go tilt. I love the look of the a metal tilt wheel. I found one for cheap. Vince you say get one and mount the start button on the dash? What about a key?

what key? :peepwall: LOL I meant use the 68 Ididit column, cheaper and no key to break off with your knee. http://www.digitalguarddawg.com/auto...-keyless-entry |

What keyless entry kit do you run? Sorry, I meant to say Vince in there somewhere. Or what are some good keyless entry systems to run in conjunction with the column mention before. |
I didn't think much about this option but now looking at it i wish i got a tilt column. Most likely i will upgrade after getting it running.

My stock non-tilt column needed to be rebuilt after 45+ years. After doing some research I found it was going to cost as much to rebuild the stock column as to buy a new Ididit tilt column. That made the choice a no brainer. So I now have a tilt wheel and I am amazed how much easier it is to get in and out of the car.

I have been considering one as well, but to be honest I have been in three different first gens with tilts and everyone of them has a little bit of movement when in the adjusted position. I am not sure I like that feeling especially when racing. It will actually rock up and down (very slight play). Anyone experience the same? I have decided to stay with stock column for that reason. One of them was an ididit.

I put an Ididit tilt in my car around 2001. My old factory non tilt one need new bearings. I like it a lot and installation is pretty easy (got the correct bolt in one). No issues with it since then.
