Default Tilt wheel in a gen 1 camaro? Worth extra coin?

Hey guys, I was thinking of getting a tilt aluminum column for the camaro but it's gonna be kinda expensive. I don't have a problem getting in my car or driving with the stock column so I was wondering if it's worth the extra coin. I'm changing my steering box anyway so if I don't change the column I'm gonna take it out and paint the old one. What do you guys think?

It's mainly a comfort thing IMO. I've only driven Jeffs 68 with a Tilt and it was nice to make the adjustment so the controls fit me a little better. I suppose it's like power seats though. Once your seat is in the right position, it really doesn't change...unless your wife drives your truck and then every setting, radio station and mirror are different and some how 52,000 napkins magically appeared from Starbucks and are shoved into every door panel, an empty water bottle is in the center console, a bag with nothing in it is on the passenger floor and the truck looks like its been driven through a mud bog. All of which happens on a "quick run to the grocery store".

I just laughed til I had tears in my eyes! I thought this only happens to me...

I put a tilt column in my chevelle, for what it's worth, and the adjustability to get the wheel down where I want it to be comfortable was worth the effort. Plus I can move it on down to see my gauges better. Hope this helps you in some way...

I used a steering column from a wrecking yard and thoroughly inspected it, shortened it to the length I needed, shaved the automatic shifter and installed it. A total of $65 bucks invested. I did one for someone else and charged them $150 including the column so mine was basically free.

Anything can be done with a little want and know how, no high dollars needed.

Why not a steel tilt? Matts Classics had them priced low at the last show. I thought I read $399 for a 68 Ididit and run a starter button up on the dash.

I'm 6' and 220# My buddy's 69 I did for him is 5'9 and 160# and having tilt is great for both of us.

Every car i build I go Tilt wheel and worth every penny plus. I like the factory GM tilts the best.

Dang I guess I should go tilt. I love the look of the a metal tilt wheel. I found one for cheap. Vince you say get one and mount the start button on the dash? What about a key?

what key? LOL

I meant use the 68 Ididit column, cheaper and no key to break off with your knee.

I didn't think much about this option but now looking at it i wish i got a tilt column. Most likely i will upgrade after getting it running.
