Front coil over spec
Hey Guys need some Help........I have a 69 Camaro 18" wheels LS and T56 with stock front subframe with QA1 front coil overs. What coil weight and length should I be running? It now has 350LBS 10" coils and rides real firm. Wonder if I can smoothen it up a bit. What do you guys suggest?

are the arms stock? stock arms have a terrible motion ratio and I think require more spring what LS? a cast iron truck block is heavy and that T56 weighs a ton, I would have started you at 550 lb spring from QA1 (spring weights from different companies work differently) hope this helps |
I have Art Morrison subframe and C6 control arms with T56 and SBC and I have QA1 12" rated at 500lbs and Strange adj. shocks. Definitely not a smooth ride on city streets, but about what I expect considering the ride height.

Posting a couple pics showing what the adjustment is at for the ride height I want. The ride height was perfect with the front tire just tucking into the fender

I tend to agree with Rod, I would expect to be running a much heavier spring say in the 500 to 600 range. That said, you should be able to adjust the ride quality with the shock adjustment.

i would have sold you 550 lb springs for that combo.
just to ad gas to the fire. i think 350 is too light and agree with Rod that you then need to adjust the compression way up to have the car not bottom out. |
On my strut car with an iron block and heads, a 300# C/O has a wheel rate of 270#. This wheel rate more than exceeds the wheel rate of conventional springs in the 1000# range. I think a wheel rate calculation is more relevant than static spring rate.
So what are the wheel rates we are discussing? |
I am gonna swap out my coil overs for a set of ride tech to match my 4 Link. I was taking some measurements that Ryan asked for at ride height and was wondering if my lower control angle is ok? The bottom of the control arm is not level to the ground.
