Aftermarket radiator

Looking for some input on aftermarket radiator for my 70 Camaro with LSA engine, auto trans. I'm planning on using the stock radiator support, which GM designed so the radiator sits on the bottom of the support. Planning on doing something with dual fans and both inlet and outlet on right side...... Any suggestions on the "best set-up?

Entropy radiators

nicks67ca 03-31-2017 05:33 AM

Entropy
Afco
Griffin
SUPERIOR RADIATOR
C&R
Frostbite (holley)

All have ls swap radiators. Tons of info on them as well.

I am not sure which of the above I'm going with for my LSA swap. I'm leaning towards Superior or Afco.

Fan kits, wiring kits (some with PWM options) all come into play as well.

We pretty much use Be Cool exclusively.

They're really nice.

They're a little more expensive than some, but super high quality.

Let me know if you need a quote.

What are you going to do with the car? Street cruiser? Autocross? HPDE / Track Days? And in what climate?

Questions to ponder to make sure you end up with the right cooling system...

AutoRad.

Whaat? Nobody listed Ron Davis Radiators.

Ron Davis? I never heard of these guys? I was leaning towards Autorad for my LSA swap in the first gen

Be Cool. Period

jmac 03-02-2019 12:51 PM

C&R or Autorad.

Had a BeCool in my Chevelle. Took 3 times for them to get it right. Every one of them were warped and not square. You placed it on the ground flat and it would wobble like a table with uneven feet. Wouldn't sit flush on the core support. Eventually swapped it for a Ron Davis piece. Was nice.

I switched to a Ron Davis with in integrated Oil and P/S cooler and couldn't be happier....racing in 90+ temps never approaches "hot". Nice workmanship....

I've had a Ron Davis before and it was great. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again. It cooled very well and efficiently which says a lot due to the fact I live in Texas where the summer temps are the equivalent to hell. However, I just ordered an AutoRad last week because I wanted the cool Core support and ordered an intercooler too with the A/C condenser and love how the mount everything all together nicely. Anyone got any stories...good, bad or indifferent about their AutoRad.

The Griffin I installed in my '66 Chevelle w/ LSA started leaking from multiple places after just two years. Just installed an AFCO radiator to replace it. The fan shroud on the Griffin was a better design but the AFCO radiator is much more efficient at shedding heat.

My Griffin is leaking. This is the second one in 4 years with minimal driving. The first was replaced by Summit as a warranty claim. Now, I'm back to square one.

I'm in the same boat with Griffin, mine just started leaking at the upper corner where the tubes are bonded to the end tank. Hopefully Summit will help out, I have had it installed for just over 2 years.

I went through three Griffin radiators in 4 years. I'll never buy another nor recommend one. I replaced it with a triple pass from Jegs. So far so good but time will tell.

I’ve done a lot of researching on radiators. That’s funny you mentioned entropy that you pointed out. I was planning on going with them also. I want USA made.
It seems a lot of companies like griffin are going overseas, and I’m reading “a lot ”of bad reviews on them. But I guess they used to be a lot better years ago. Seems quality has really gone down.

Entropy has a lifetime warranty. I got for my 69 LSA project. It’s made very well and the fans seem to be very powerful.

Using a Cold Case in my 461 BBC 69 Camaro. The radiator brackets locate the radiator 5/8" further back than the stock radiator, seems to be the only complaint many users have had. I had my brackets cut off and re-welded same as factory radiators. Otherwise really nice quality and customer support. It has two tubes that are 1-1/4" which is pretty impressive.

Works fine but I suspect my fans could be more powerful.-Mike

Want to give a big shout out to Superior Radiator. Prob a 7-8 year old dual fan electric setup I have from them. One of the fan blades broke. Called them and instead of selling me a replacement unit they mailed me a new fan blade for free. Who does that? Great service and great product. When I do need a new unit I know I am sticking with them.
