Going gutterless

3 Attachment(s)
Now that my Cuda is gone finally getting a chance to finish my Camaro.Flush mounted the front and back glass. Then desided to go gutterless.Have seen it done before, but never liked how it looked.I had to form a piece of 1/4inch roundbar to the shape of the roof, cut the roof and quarter back about 2 or 3 inches. Then roll a decorative bead in the replacement metal to give it a factory look.Turned out pretty good

B Schein 02-26-2007 07:58 PM

Lets see some pics of the flush mounted glass.

I like the gutterless, good job. I also like the door handles.

How about some info (PICTURES) on that flush glass.

Give us the details, I'm ready to get to work this weekend.

I told you it was pain. What are you doing at the bottom of the windshield.

57hemicuda 02-27-2007 09:01 PM

I'm going to bend a peice of flat bar to the shape of the window and run windsheild rubber trim across there

cluxford 02-27-2007 10:27 PM

Awesome, I am just about to start the same 3 mods, gutterless, flush door handles and flush glass...great job

Mick Mc 02-28-2007 12:16 AM

Thanks for the pictures.

How about the details and how you did it.

What gasket or setting tape did you use?

Did you add metal to the frame to match the size of the glass?

How involved was it really.

I looked at a 67 Chevelle at SEMA that was perfect. The glass looked like a million bucks flush, but I couldn't find the builder to ask questions.

The RING Bros were cool but they didn't like the way the mustang gasket turned out, they said they would do it different next time....

I'm sre there are alot of different ways to do this,Iknow Brian did his differently then I did.I took a peice of 1"x1/4" steel flat bar, curved it to the contour of the opening,to make up the thickness of the glass. then filled in the opening, see pics

Mick Mc 02-28-2007 06:41 PM

That helps.

How much room did you leave for the thickness of the glass sealing tape (that I assume you will put down before the glass goes in).

Are you going to shade the edges of the glass black like a new car glass?
(so you can't see the mounting flange)

Hey nice work, like the firewall. I noticed in the last set of pictures you posted that you have modified the center dash for gauges. I am doing the same thing, could we see a pic of that too?

Bandit Ls-1 03-01-2007 01:24 AM

that looks like its going to be one badass camaro, cant wait to see it finished

LateNight72 03-01-2007 05:17 AM

All of the exterior body mods done, just finished mounting console, and e-brake handle. The dash mods took a little bit of work to smooth into the console, but they turned out pretty good

Lemons 03-25-2007 07:20 PM

That's a really good looking console, what's it out of?

57hemicuda 03-26-2007 05:45 AM

The Console Is Out Of A 2006 Dodge Neon With The Front Cut Off Of It.the Arm Rest Just Fits My Body Perfect.should Be Really Comfortable To Drive

gearheads78 03-31-2007 10:39 PM

I have to admit the gutterless looks great but will you not ever drive in the rain? First time you open a door in a down poor to will have a 1/2 gallon of water in your floor board running right off the roof.

Just bent up the down bars in the front of the cage.I'm installing a front suspension off of a 2002 Camaro,so I had to swing them real high to mount the struts on.Really looks kind of funny, reminds me of an off road trophy truck

Rokcrln 04-07-2007 06:46 AM

Your work is looking great! Yes it is alot of work but that is what sets your apart from the guy down the street. On your glass did you have new glass cut or just shrink down the opening size to fit the stock glass? Your handles flow very nice with the over look you are going for.

I had to close the opening about .375 and build the depth up .250,to use factory glass. The hard part is that the rear glass does not have the same curvature as the roof line,{I tried 3 different factory glasses no two were the same}.So I had to buy the glass I was going to use,and shape the roof to the new glass. It was a good time.

Yeah, just dont ever break the window or else it sounds like you will have to get a new window AND a new paint job. :wow:

57hemicuda 04-09-2007 05:39 AM

No,its Not That Bad.the Glasses Where Different, but Not That Different.all 4 Glasses I Have Will Fit The Opening, but Some Are Better Then Others.i Guess Its My Anal Retentive Nature That Wants Everything Perfect.

98ssnova 04-09-2007 08:40 AM

You said that you were using front suspension from a 2002 camaro can I see some pics on this I have a 98 that is my donor car and if I can use it I would like to Thanks

57hemicuda 04-09-2007 12:26 PM

I justed started building the lower control arms, the rest of the stuff will be OEM.As soon as I'm finished welding them together I'll post some pics. The uprights and struts are ok looking, but the upper control arms I might replace with aftermarket ones.Ron

Finally finished the lower control arms, they're pretty beefy, but the straightness and geometry worked out perfect. They use the big mopar screw in ball joint,so I had to ream the 2002 Camaro spindle.Kind of have that nascar look.Using Afco uppers, they are pretty cheap and look cool too.Hoping to have it back on its feet by next weekend

Got upper control arm mounts made and car back down on its feet.Used the adjustable slugs in upper mounts like they use on stock cars to adjust roll center, worked out pretty good but man are those 4th gen Camaro uprights tall.Ron

Rybar 05-24-2007 07:49 PM

Holy crap! What are your inner fenders going to look like? Are you going to graft in a 4th gen inner?

Looks good though!

57hemicuda 05-24-2007 07:53 PM

I will probably build them out of aluminum, the tires are too big to use a factory wheelwell anyway

Fially making the thing pretty, thought I'd never get to the body work stage

Wanted tires all the way out on the edge.Ended up cutting fenderwell lip completely out of new fender, bulging wheel opening about 3/4" in criticle areas for clearance. Then I formed a peice of 1/4"round bar to the shape of the wheel opening and welding it in place.Turned out real well,275/40-17's on 17x9.5 wheels,on the front!.Man those big meats look cool.Ron

68protouring454 08-17-2007 05:54 PM

looks great, i did that on my car as well, however i used some 1/8 bar, worked killer, do you have full turning radius at that ride height? what size front tire? could you tell me the rocker height to the flat part of rocker and also height from ground to bottom of subframe below car? thanks alot, looks nice

57hemicuda 08-17-2007 06:06 PM

The front tires are are 275/40-17's,and clear everything even when fully depressed, the subfame I made myself and I wanted nothing lower th 5",so it stayed at 5",I would amagine the rockers are at about 6",but I'll measure tomorrow.Ron

D Rock 08-18-2007 12:39 PM

Will this make putting the fender on the inner fender any harder?
