Cleaning Cooked-on Oil
 

What's the best way to remove cooked-on oil from exhaust parts?

Is it as easy as just using oven cleaner?

What if the parts are ceramic-coated?

Ideas? Experience?

If the parts are shiny ceramic coated try Mother's aluminum polish. That's what the guys at Jet Hot recommend and it works well.

DO NOT use oven cleaner!! It took the ceramic coating off my in spots.

BEST thing Iv'e found is SOS pads,then mothers alum.polish

I've had good luck emulsifying the baked on oil or trans fluid from my headers by saturating it with penetrating oil. It seems to get gummy and then eventually soft enough to wipe/scrub off. :thumbsup:

I did come across something that worked pretty well:

Liquid driveway degreaser. I soaked some shop rags in the stuff and started wiping. Even without an SOS pad the oil came off pretty well. Just in case the chemicals would effect the ceramic I made sure to rinse thoroughly with water. Worked like a charm on all of the pipes with no stains or spots.
