I'm going to start building a new frame for my truck and I wanted to know what grade steel tubing to use. The main rails are going to be 2x6x3/16 or 7 ga.

1/8" thick is the standard for the industry. 3/16" is way to thick for an entire frame unless it has a specific purpose because that frame is going to be super heavy. A frame built out of 1/8" and has good bracing with be plenty strong. I am no expert though. What are you building exactly? What is the purpose of the truck? anyways good luck

I can run 1/8 but I want to build some curves in it which would be 4 sided and then weld the corners. But I want it to match the tuding.I want to match the existing frame but pinch the rear rails. I don't have a bander for square tubing. I hope you understand what I'm saying. Awsome truck you are building. Toby

How about checking some aftermarket suppliers that sell rear rails, back half kits and such?

They should have the material thickness listed.

I am sure after checking a few you will find a pattern.
