86 Monte Carlo SS G-Machine

Hey everyone, I just realized I have been a member here for 3 yrs and have never even posted anything. So here it goes:(

I have an 86 Monte Carlo SS that I am building as a Pro-touring/G-machine. I have had the car since '99, and started the major work in '04. I am doing everything myself, including frame, body, paint, interior, and drivetrain. I am a bodyman by trade, and I have also worked as an auto upholsterer for 8yrs. I graduated from Wyo Tech in '01, with training in collision/refinishing, trim/upholstery, body fab, and chassis fab/hi perf. engines.

As I said the car is an 86 Monte SS. I started off buy doing a minitub to the rear, and eliminating the spare tire well. After this I made a homemade flat surface out of 4x4's, shims and plywood, with the help of a laser level (I know this isn't the best method, but I'm sure there has been worse). With that built I setup the frame and cut everthing out from the fire wall to the rear horns. It is now all 2x4x.125" rect. tubing, w/ truck arm rear suspension, and custom built full floating 9". Everthing is custom made with the exception of the truck arms, and cross member. I am planning on SCandC's Street Comp AFX setup for the front suspension. As far as the body, it will only have a cowl hood and House of Kolor Kandy Apple Red paint. I have a Viper T-56 6 speed for a tranny, and I am planning on an LSx engine with twin turbos (hopefully).

Any and all comments are welcome/wanted. Here are some pics of the work I have currently completed. I say currently, but truth be known I haven't worked on it in almost 2yrs:( I am waiting to rebuild my shed, so I have a place to work on it.

Thanks for looking,
Joe

the frame looks realy nice and im sure it will be cool as heck with all the room for rear tires you have ... but looking at the frame i just dont see where the exhaust will go... even with oval tubing..

bit love the build, what are you using as a lateral locator for the rear, watts or panhard?

I am planning on oval tubing with flowmaster mufflers, and nascar "boom tubes" comming out in front of the rear tires.

It has an adjustable panhard bar. There should be some pics of it in there.

As for the front suspension, I am planning on SC and C's Street Comp AFX setup.

Thanks, Joe

Not 100% sure on wheels, I just know I want to go with 18's. For the front brakes I have a set of Wilwood SLP6 6 piston calipers, and plan on going with a pair of 4 pistons for the rear. Body color will be Kandy Apple Red (House of Kolor). Here is a photo shop pic I had a member on montecarloss.com do of his car, and it is very similar to what I want mine to look like. The wheels are Bonspeed Deltas, but I'm not sure on them yet.

Some great ideas you have there. I'm glad we have more G-bodys getting into the pro-touring theme. I love how you used sickspeed's pic for your photoshop.

Looks good i would make the spoiler taller or lay it back more and use the 87/88 tail lights and rear bumper but that's just me tho.

Looks great!!!! Those Monte's have always been a favorite of mine!! Looking forward to seeing the progress on it!!!
There was a black SS in one of the major magazines 2 or 3 years ago,,,all kinds of custom touches to it,,,I remember it had rear brake cooling ducts incorporated,,,likely the slickest SS I've ever stumbled across!!!! Never seen it again though!!!

Yeah i love most of the g body cars but hate seeing them donked out like most of them are now.I been looking for a monte carlo or grand prix but most are donked or just way over priced.
