Early T56 to a pre 85 SBC
I have a 383 I am building and want to hook up a early LT1 T56 to it. What will I need?

It depends on which direction you want to go with the T-56. OE or Aftermarket. OE will mean you'll need a complete T-56 setup including the clutch assembly (make sure it's complete - the T bolt isn't avail from GM anymore). Depending on if your block/crank is pre or post 1986 you could also need a special flywheel. Pre-86 is 2 piece rear main as I'm sure you already know and will require a different flywheel.
If you go aftermarket, you can use a traditional clutch setup, flywheel, etc. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any LT1 clutch setup questions. I've done a couple of them. Cya! |
Thanks for the info, I am going with OE it has the clutch and everything still I guess I would need to find out what fly wheel I am going to need.

See if this helps: http://www.nastyz28.com/~Todd80Z28/p...56_Install.htm
Search over at nastyZ a bunch of guys have done it. |
You will need to get the "special" flywheel, you can look it up at Summit.

I looked on summit they only had one for a BBC. I will have to call some people up.
Thanks for all the help guys. |
Try calling Mcleod's tech support, they were extremely helpful and knowledgeble when I had questions on which flywheel and clutch to use. Good luck, it's the best thing I ever did to my car:cheers:

You could also search Mcleods message board, it's been asked a few times.
Centerforce, Hayes, Zoom and a few others make the flywheel you need. Flywheel will work with either BBC or SBC. Only diff is internal or external balance. |
A buddy of mine did this and used Centerforce's flywheel. As far as I know he's never had a problem.

Ok ill check them out thanks.
