Making a center console...help and ideas?

Like the title says i'm looking to build a center console for my '70 nova. I've finally decided to ditch the bench for some corbeau seats and there is gonna be a pretty hefty void in the center now. I wanna run a t-56 so there should definitely be a shifter location in this. So i ask you guys, any ideas images and/or strategies on how to make one. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I wish someone made a cool aftermarket, muscle car inspired console using modern materials.

I do too. I dont have the best fab. skill so a couple buddies with some actual talent would be helping me. An aftermarket one (maybe carbon fiber from anvil:D :D :D ) would be sweet.

we made a cool one for my truck a while back. we built a mock up out of wood (easy to sculpt and manipulate) then i bought a sheet of textured abs plastic. i just used a heat gun and let the abs lay over the wooden mock up and had the shape i wanted. then headed to good ol walmart and bought a console and stoled all the cup holders and stuff of of it. i cut a hole in my plastic shell i had and inserted all the cup holders and compartments and used panel bond on the inside to ensure it all stayed together.. all in all it worked well..

Here's the one in my NOMAD -- I bought BOAT cup holders out of aluminum - the painted part is fiberglass (easy to manipulate and shape) the rest is some steel frame - and wood and bondo ! The stereo faceplate is removable - when you do that - it 'unlocks' the fiberglass top piece and reveals a nice secret hiding spot...

GregWeld is your Nomad console painted or vinyl warped?
LowchevyII Maybe sneak some foot-well lighting in there. I like that look.

and the foot lighting thing, definitely something to think about. always a classy, understated touch for sure.

Thanks for the compliments ---

It's wrapped in little baby naughas... and carpet where you'd kick it... super easy to do - glue and a little heat and stretching....

I went with the curved look - because of the curves in the dash -- so that made it a little more complicated but not much.
