Full Racepak Digital Dash or a full set of Autometers...
Was looking at some of my options for proper gauges and working some numbers

Reggie Jackson's camaro has a STUNNING interior and I really like the look of all the autometer carbon stuff http://lh5.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/SO...u4/s800/01.jpg Then again, the data logging and GPS features of the racepak units is great for track days. Do the lap timers work via gps? set the beginning of the lap by marking the finish line type thing? They look like cool units. |
Most of my experience is drag racing with the racepak. But I was reading the IQ3 Manual yesterday and it is just a matter of pushing a button to set the Start Finish location. The Racepak website has lots of info.

What do you have for engine? That will really depend on what the Racepak wil truly cost. The cool thing is if you are running efi and have the right ECM, you can datalog direct from the ECM with a CAN connection and not have to buy a bunch of senders or extra guages. If not, then the Racepak senders are not cheap and can drive the price through the roof.
Racepak has several diplay pages so you can decide what is primary, secondary, etc. We will be using their other dash pak in a build we are just strating and will be pulling info direct from the ECM to reduce costs. |
Another option is the AIM Sports Strada MXL unit...

I can use my existing console to house the typical 4 gauges, fuel, volts, water temp, oil pressure. So I'd really only need 3 sensors. The gauges can do the rest |
I'd go with the set of Autometers, I just love the way they look, retro, and cool, dunno, I've never been fan of digital racepak dashes... I would use them for function, but in this case is for looks too, so I would go with the AM's

The Stack dash is around $1400 - $2000 (depending on options) and you don't need any auxilary guages.. It does oil pressure, oil temp, voltage, tach, speedo, water temp and a few other ones --- all in one unit. Although I'm not sure if the data logging is extra $$$.
Maybe I'm just old but I prefer the analog tach.. http://www.stackltd.com/streetdash1.html Quote:

This is just my opinion, but after driving Camaro X for close to 1,000 miles on Power Tour a few years ago, I found the Racepak to be... ok. It was trick and has some great features, but what I wasn't a big fan of was the digital number displays. You needed to read the numbers and digest the data instead of simply glancing at a needle. I know that sounds odd and a lame excuse, but after years of just being able to glance at a needle and knowing whether things are ok or not, it was an adjustment. That being said, some inputs on the Racepak can be configured to display as an analog (like the tach, speedo), the Racepak looks especially bad ass at night, it's programmable, and it's something that's outside the box.
Pros and cons. Oh, and here's an obligatory Camaro X / Racepak pic. Camaro X is such a bad ass car. https://lateral-g.net/temp/101mph.jpg |
