Head Gasket price shock
 

Last nite i emailed a larger company about purchasing a set of those multi layered cometic head gasket's, (.073 thinkness).....

Guess how much?


231.00 wowza......i have never run a head gasket that cost's that much and i have had some pretty nice engine's.

What are your thought's on a good head gasket?

4 cylinder MLS gaskets for stock engines are typically 125.00 or so.Try buying a gasket for a bigger deisel...~500.00 or so.

Well for 1, Cometics are pretty much the best gasket on the market, and 2 they are re-usable!

What i am looking to do is lower the compression on my new short block....it is 10.5 to 1 right now, and probably not the best for my twintubo's. The .073 gasket would get me down to around 9.6 to 1, and with my nitrous, should keep the car running at safe limit's, most of the time.....

$231 sounds rather high. Cometic should be able to hook you up for $150 or so. I paid right around $140 last year for the pair of Cometics which currently sit in the package adorning the wall of my garage (the surface finish on my block was borderline for MLS gaskets and I didn't want to chance a leak, so I used Fel-Pro's instead...)

Right on man, i appreciate the offer..........I don't have the part number per say since i was unsure of the thickness i needed, but from what i gathered from the email, the part number may be C5511-074 My engine is a 302 bore .030 over, which would be 4.030 and the thinkness i need is .074.....according to what i can find from a google search, the part number would therefore be C5511-074 C5511 being cometic's ford number for 4.030 and the .074......

I think....hehehehe

anyways, i thought his price seemed pretty high too........i know cometic's aren't cheap, but that seem's almost 100 bucks to high....

My cometic gaskets for my SBC were 76.60 each.

yea, that seem's like a much better price.......better then 115 each.

+1 on the Cometics. I have a set on my car, .080 thick for boost. They are the best out there. Can somebody get me a price for a new set on a 302 Ford.
