Single shear for steering rack?
Here is a CAD drawing I'm working on, basically the upper tabs will be were the rack will mount to. Two 5/8" bolts going into the rack, the material will be 3/16" and have a second circle piece 3/16" So a total of 3/8" of steel the rack will be bolted against. I could work a double shear into it, but this I feel is substantial enough and is a cleaner approach. Just looking for you guys opinion.

the factory mounted them in single shear......... i guess you could build a bracket to stabalize the front and make it double shear.

yea, that's why I didn't see it an issue. I still don't feel it will be, but I may build a bolt in k member to connect front and crossmembers, that would integrate the LCA bolts.

You should be good- a typical Grade 8 - 5/8" Bolt can take over 8500 lbs in single shear, and you've got to of them. I could run through the math and tell you how high a safety factor that is, but I'm too busy watching the game! :D

Cool, I plan on running Hi Strength stainless 5/8" anyway. With the doubled up 3/16" I didn't for see a problem, but thanks for the feedback.
