Carpet tips and tricks?
I have never liked the way my carpet fit in my car. It was a Camaro specific cut pile kit from one of the vendors my interior guy uses.
I have noticed that the DSE cars always have nice looking carpet. Tight and smooth and it fits very well. I asked Stacy about it when I saw her at Goodguys Chicagoland. She said they did a lot of prep work with the Dynamat prior to carpeting. I should have asked her to clarify what she meant. How do I achieve that nice look? I assume lots of high quality glue is one thing. |
Warm it with a heat gun (carefully) from the back side and it will form into place easier. This is for those problem areas where there is a bubble, needs to form around something, etc. When it cools it will hold that shape.

I would say they do a good job with dynamat and then the interior guy uses a jute pading..which helps cover any wires or bumps you might have in the floor. also maybe check with an interior shop on some good carpet like a square weave or a mercedes carpet maybe.:thumbsup:

Its all about the prep work, Install the dynamat smooth as you can then your padding has to lay right then the seams need to be sewed in the right places to get it to follow the floor right. On a lot of the cars we do I fuse aluminum over the dips and then put the dynamat down, Makes for a really nice looking carpet. Don't use crap carpet!

In the August 2010 edition of Rod and Custom magazine there is an article named "Keeping Your Cool"(pages 40-49)that shows how to cut, shape and install Dynamat and related products. Hope this helps.

A trick I've used for every car I have done is use a soldering iron to burn through when making holes for the seats; as it does not fray and looks clean.
