Stock 69 camaro needs wheels

A buddy of mine has a stock 69 camaro SS and wants to put some new wheels on it.Its all stock with factory discs up front and drums out back.Anyone know the perfect sizes as in back spacing and offsets for a set of 18" or 17" wheels?? Wants the widest he can go but no modifications on front and rear.
Thanks in advance
Steve

8s up front with 4.75 to 5 BS, 9.5 on rear with 5.5 BS. 245 and 275s, keep the overall heigh of the fronts 26" or under, rear can go up to 27.5"

Frank what would the offsets be?

Frank listed the back space in his post: BS = Back Spacing

Yup, the offsets that Frank listed are pretty much spot on. If you don't see wheels available in 9.5, run a 9" with a 5.25" Back Space, and the same 275/40/18

I figured the back spacing but a wheel shop here locally asked what the offsets had to be? I always thought that's
What back spacing was offset. Thanks guys!

Us old school guys speak in backspace, not offset. But to answer your question

On the 8" wheel the offset of a 4.875 BS wheel is 9.5
On the 9.5" wheel the offset of a 5.5 BS wheel is 6.3

Keep in mind you can also run 10" wide wheels in the rear generally w/o issues, that's what I run on my '69 Z/28 and it isn't tubbed....but this will be tight so accurate measurements of your buddy's car will need to be taken...measure twice, cut once.

I can also recommend Jon Henson @ www.driverzinc.com he's set up all my current cars as well as my daily drivers...
