Speedtech Subframe??
I haven't seen many guys running the Speedtech sub-frame for the 69 Camaro. Mostly just the DSE units. Cost wise Speedtech has a big advantage and you can use different spindle and control arm set ups on their unit. Sub only weighs 125 lbs as well. Anyone have any feedback with the Speedtech unit as a comparison?

i have it but haven't been able to drive on it yet. i also upgraded to ATS tall spindles. for the price its very nice. for performance there isn't enough feed back yet to tell. i do have 10" wheels with 295" on it though so thats a big advantage over the stock sub.

Here's one in progress:

There are lots of Speed Tech subs in the build phase (Youth Pastor Chris comes to mind and Sherp's Nova I think), and Bill's Evade has one as well. Also, Remember that Blake's Nova came in 5th @ Optima.
From a personal observation, their stuff looks (complete sub w ATS Spindles) real good and I'd use it. |
Yep I have one in mine. Haven't driven it yet but so far am very impressed with the quality of it. Even more impressed after seeing how Blake's Nova did. Like Ron said, he came in 5th and then his next race came in 1st.

I got to ride and drive Roger's 69 Camaro last year and the thing handles like its on rails. We took a lot of twisties and there was no roll and it held a line. I had already had my track time package sitting in my garage and the "test drive" just reassured my choice.

It's been proven over and over. The driver makes the BIGGEST difference. Stielow won because he practiced all summer, had the best car, and was the best driver. Look at guys like Cassanova and Shipka with their stock subs. I wouldn't blink and eye running the speedtech stuff.

Normally I would love to disagree with you Todd and Mr. Weld...but.....you are completely right:lol: - Driver make the difference- look at Mary with leaf springs and stock stuff handing out lunches all day long on the autocross. What I've noticed so far is the amount of room it frees up- plus a big tire. As far as performance...well I've got a little track time in an import- my wife's daily driver- yes she beat my time, but that's not the point!! I couldn't tell the difference between a stock sub or custom anything- but someday I'll be a race-car driver- ya right- Chris BTW - the Speedtech stuff is killer- and they are great guys to deal with |
Thanks man, I wouldn't admit my woman out raced me. :D
That all being said, a great driver can only take a poorly built or tuned car so far. That is the beauty of a DSE or Speedtech setup. They have done most of the work for you. I guarantee Mary didn't just jumjp in her Camaro and it was near as fast as it was before the rebuild. Lot's of tweaking to maximize the car and match the drivers feel is key. |
The track package is a killer deal for everything you would be getting.
