AWD transmission in a 72 Nova

A buddy of mine was given a transmission (AWD) from a 2006 Escalade. He's wondering if he can change it from an all wheel drive transmission by removing the transfer case and changing the output shaft and make it work in his 72 Nova. Anyone know if this can be done.

I saw the thread title and was hoping for a interesting new AWD Nova project.

yes, you should be able to just change the ouput shaft and put the 2wd tail housing on and be good to go, then you just need a crossmember for the
4l60e and shorten the driveshaft to match.

I do think the trans has to be completely dissassembled to change the output shaft.....would be a good time to rebuild it.

Haha yeah I knew the title would pique the curiosity of some and possibly get me my answer. Maybe I should just tell my buddy to make his Nova AWD instead.

It can be done. Shaft is held in by a snap ring. Have to disassemble trans to get to snap ring. Might want to consider a rebuild at that point, or at least seals and gaskets for sure.
