Tremec TKO600 Will Not Shift
Just went to head out for a cruise and started the car and went to put into reverse and could not get car into gear. The trans would grind if i tried to force it. I shut the car off and was able to change gears but 1st, 3rd and 5th felt extremely notchy. What is a good place to start looking for potential problems?
Just what I wanted after a 60-hour week! |
John,
It sounds like the clutch is not disengaging. I had a similar situation about a month ago. My car sat in a dampish garage for 3 months when I got in pushed down the clutch put it in neutral started the car. Pushed clutch in and wont go in any gear. I new immediatly the clutch disk married itself to the flywheel even though the pressure plate pulled away. Some friction materials built into the disk can develope a bit of corrosion over time in the right conditions and stick to the flywheel. All I did was shut the car off in first gear and rock the whole car back and forth and it popped free. Did yours run well prior to putting it away last? Is it a hyd bearing or manual linkage? Rich |
Rich, car ran fine no issues. The linkage is mechanical. I can only get into gear with engine off. Car will not start in any gear only neutral. Do I need to discconect neutral safety switch in oder to start in gear then shutoff and rock?
thanks for the tip. |
John,
You do not have to start the car. Put it in gear without the car running. Then push the clutch in and have someone try to push the car. If itmwill not roll the clutch disc it stuck. If so keepmtrying to rock it to get it free. Keep the clutch in. If that doesn't work and you don't want to take it apart you can try something else. It is not safe and can break parts. So do it at your own risk. Try jacking it up in the rear. Start it in gear and let the wheels turn. Then while you are in the car and ready on the brake pedal have some one lower the jack. When the wheels touch it should come free. You may have to do it a couple times. Again, THIS IS NOT SAFE! THERE ARE HUGE RISKS AND DOWNSIDES! DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! Did I mention be very very careful, it's dangerous! Have I been clear? Good luck! |

good luck Rich |
Rich I'll give that a shot. Chad I think I will pass on your suggestion.
I'm not a gambling man and don't want to break something or cause further damage. Plus not looking to hurt myself either! Before this all happened thought about selling the car, maybe it's a sign?:_paranoid |
