Full sus and brake set up for 69 camaro?
Hi everyone,
I'm a full newbie on here so please forgive my lack of knowledge. I'm the proud new owner of a 69 camaro and I'm looking to do a full suspension- brake upgrade on my car. Everything under the car is currently stock with the disk front, drum rear set up. I'm open for ideas, basically I'm looking to improve the handling and braking of the car as well as achieve the pro touring look. I won't be taking it to the track, I just want something fun to drive that works well and doesn't break the bank. I'm also fairly new to working on cars but would like to do most of the work myself. The less welding etc required the better. A little info on the car that might need to be considered.. It has a 502 big block, roll cage (plan on cutting this out or at least modifying it), Gas tank and battery mounted in the trunk. I'd like to run 18 in wheels, something like 18.8 front, 18.10 rear? I've been doing some research online and so far these are the parts I've been looking at, let me know if I'm on the right track or way off. I've been researching some and I'm pretty set on the Speed tech Road assault package for the front. It's adjustable so I'm guessing you can get it lowered about 2" with this kit which is what I'm looking for or do I need drop springs also? I like the DSE package as well but seems like you can't beat the Speedtech on price for the same quality. A similar style package from DSE costs about 1k more I'm finding. I've been reading a lot about matching your front and rear suspension as far as brand goes for the best quality and it doesn't look like speed tech makes what I'm looking for in the rear "a leaf system". Do you think the Hotchkis 1.5" drop sport leafs would do the job and is there a good shock I should add to that? I may run it lower but 3" might be too much and it looks like you can settle in the middle somewhere with the help of blocks. I'm wanting to opt out of the mini tub for ease of installation purposes but want to run the Forgeline GA3 wheels 18x8 front and 18x10 rear. It looks like they'll fit. Still checking out the brakes but the Baers look nice and parts availability is a big plus. Any word on a quick ratio steering box? I've heard good things but there's a lot out there to choose from. Thanks again, so many options! I think I'm loosing control, I'm even looking at the complete coil over system from ride tech. With maybe the SA shock upgrade. I have a few friends who weld professionally so could get the brackets for the rear four link on there pretty easily. Sounds like I may need a 12 bolt rear end for it though? Mines only a 10, If that's the case I can order one up ad have them weld the brackets on for me! On top of that if you buy the system in December you can save $300 bucks plus free shipping. Hmmm. I think it's time for me to go to bed.

Our kit allows you to run any rear end you want. Typically we use a Moser 9-inch, but the brackets can be welded to anything you have (or want to have!)
As many will tell you, you should keep the front and rear from the same manufacturer as the kit is designed to work as a system. If you piece things together it may work, but it has a MUCH higher chance of not working as well as it could. You will not be disappointed in our kit, especially the shocks. These are built to our specs by Fox Racing Shox, who if you don't know are HUGE in the off road game. The shocks we use share technology with the Fox units under the Ford Raptor F150, which have passed the insane testing required by Ford (well over 100K miles). Of course I'm a little biased, so please feel free to ask around. You will find Ridetech makes great quality parts and services them with outstanding customer service. |
