454 Help!

Im looking into buying a 454 and need to make sure this is the year I want... 76 Standard Deck Mark IV.... going to stroke it to a 496..... looking for 650 hp in my camaro. It was a two bolt main but was drilled to a 4 bolt with new caps.... is this going to be a problem? Need Help before its sold to someone else!

Thanks

That's a good block. The four bolt conversion shouldn't be a problem unless they did it wrong.

That sounds good. My old 496 with cast iron oval port heads, 11.5-12.0 comp, 1150 dom carb and a decent solid lifter cam made 635 Hp on our dyno. We converted many 2 bolt mains back in the day they worked out good..

If you can take a look at the main bearings and see how they are ask who did the work hopefully it was a reputable shop.

Maybe ask to have the block (line hone) checked by a machine shop first if it was never running after the conversion

Im going to get it tomorrow, my understanding is it was done but never put together. He did say it will need line honed. I only paid 100.00 for it seamed like that was a good price... Ill drop it off at a local speed shop and hope everything was done right before I start to put money in it. Thanks for your help!

I would think after the line hone, it'll be just fine.

have the bores sonic tested too, and make sure your machine shop is reputable

X2, first thing I would do, no point if the walls are too thin (due to casting shift or whatever).
