Inner tail panel valance question

Hey guys-

I need to replace my inner tail panel valance and had a question. Since the rear frame rails are welded to it, will I need to brace them or the back of the car in general before I remove it or is it a simple remove and weld up the new panel?

Also, I am assuming to do that job, I will have to remove the rear leafs since they attach to the frame rails, right?

Since it's my first time, I don't want to mess anything up.

Thanks.

If your floor pan is still in I can't see them going anywhere laterally, so I don't really see the need to brace them.. How much of the car do you have apart?

Lots of it. Trunk floor is out and I will be replacing the tail panel. So at some point, the entire rear will be gutted short of the quarters.

I'm no expert, but i replaced my trunk pan and welded it to the frame rails before i cut the rear valance and tail panel off. Seemed like there would be no way for them to move that way.
