Clutch / Master Question

I have a T56 with a RAM clutch setup and a Tilton 3/4 bore Master (1.10 stroke)

When I put the car in reverse it grinds, all the other gears seem to be just fine, the other thing is that the release point is right on the floor which is another thing that needs to be addressed.

I am told that changing to a master cylinder with a longer stroke will solve my problems but before I go ahead and switch to the Wilwood Compact Master with a 1.4 stroke I thought I would make sure.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

The master cylinder may not have enough volume to fully activate the throw out bearing. In short, when you move the piston all the way down in any master cylinder, it will push out x amount of fluid. If it is not enough, it will not engage the throw out bearing all the way.

but why just in reverse? could it be a slave to plate spacing issue?

Thanks! Lets hope the new master works out

Not a clue why it's just reverse-- I have under 200 miles on the car and it didn't do it at first it started about 50 miles ago, the clutch has been blead, hopefully this new master works otherwise going to have to drop the trans and check the spacing...

Could be the spacing...

Check to make sure your reverse lock out solenoid is wired properly. Could also be a worn synchro; some guys just flip them around and it fixes the problem. Also, I've heard some guys put it in first, then reverse and it eliminates the rev grind.

I have a tko-600 and I have to put it in 1st before going into reverse. I thought I had a bad trans, but that little move stopped it fom grinding into reverse. Cheaper fix than I thought it was going to be.

Update with a new issue...I spoke to Ram Clutches and they sent me a shim which I had installed and it didn't fix the problem, reverse still grinds! Next is to put in a new master cylinder with more stroke hopefully that works but on top that issue the output shaft seal popped out on me twice!

I did a search on the net and there were a few occurrences just wondering if anyone has had a problem with the rear output seal leaking or coming right out?

Reverse no longer grinds and shifting is much smoother!

The culprit was the master cylinder, switched to the Wilwood with a bit more stroke and thankfully it worked.

Which Clutch Master from Wilwood did you use?

I used this one:
