67 Wheel fitment help
I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on some new wheels/tires for my 67 Camaro. Stock 10 bolt rear with drum, stock disc breaks up front. I did have the rear leafs de-arched 2 1/2". I'm going with the Ridler 695(cheap). I've searched the forum and there are so many different opinions on wheels size. Can some explain the benefit of an 18" over a 17"? Our roads are brutal here so I'm a little concerned with 18". I found these wheels on sale and I'm ready to order but I want to make sure. I want the wheels to tuck nicely and tires need to fill the wheel wells.
F- 17x8. 4.75" BS. 225/40 R- 17x8. 5.5" BS. 255/40 OR F-18x8. 4.5" BS R- 18x9.5 5.5" BS Can some please tell me this is correct? I would consider 18" if there's a benefit. thank you |
Nothing??? Was there something wrong with my post? I'd like to get this figured out so I can buy these while their on sale.

17 limits the big brake kits, tires are cheaper I changed the front tire size on the 17's F- 17x8. 4.75" BS. 245/40 R- 17x8. 5.5" BS. 255/40 |
Thanks Rod. I thought I was prett chill, I didn't know if I needed more info in the original post that's all. It seemed like I was getting views but no response.

I have same kind problem. 67 Camaro drum brakes all around. I want put Hotchkis TVS 2" drop front and 1,5" drop rear and Baer track 4 13" disc front and SS4 12" disc rear.
Iīm thinking 18x8 4,75bs rear wheel. How much space I should live to rear outside fender and inside ? On rear side wheel opening itīs very narrow only 11 3/4" and I canīt fit 5,25bs wheel. 255/45 with 18x8 4,25 bs leaves about 1/2"-3/4" gap, so is that enough ? How much hotchkis tvs system allow rear side movements ? I canīt make measurement with this parts because those are just coming. And front Iīm thinking 17x7 or 8 4,25-4,50 bs, what is suitable and also tire size? I want to keep good balance of car and also outside look as well. |
Here's what I learned when researching tire/wheel combos for a first gen a few years back...
In order to center the wheel in the openings these are the best backspacing numbers (wheel diameter doesn't matter 15,16,17,18,19,20,etc): Info for an 18" setup: 18x7 4.25" BS 18x8 4.75" BS 18x9 5.25" BS 18x9.5 5.5" BS 18x10 5.75 BS 225/40's will (almost) always fit up front with the right backspacing. 235/40's have a good chance of fitting without issues. 245/40's are pushing it and might scrub on the inside on tight turns. 255/40's will (almost) always fit in the rear with the right backspacing. 265/40's have a good chance of fitting. 275/40's are pushing it and might scrub on the inside if the suspension isn't tight. |
