Nodular S case or Nodular heavy duty case

Hi,

Im having Rons Rear end build my third member right now. Going with a True Trac 31 spline. My question is Nodular S case or Nodular heavy duty? And Steel or Aluminum pinion support? I need to let them know ASAP, any input is appreciated.

Looking at 6-700hp and a lot of cruising, minimal Auto X, road racing. I know I should have went S trac and 35 spline but I already have the axles and I don't plan on doing any 5k 1/4 mile launches on stickys. Im running this until I kill it.

I am also talking with Ron and Wendy about putting a 9" together for me, (I have heard nothing but good positive information about Ron) I was going with the Nodular S case and 31 spline with the DSE Quadralink. What brand and size brakes did you use? Did you get your rear end back and installed?

31 spline axles will be fine, if you have a good brand. Your weakest link will be the Tru-Trac.

The aluminum "Daytona" pinion support is a good choice with larger pinion bearings which are needed IMHO. The only challenge here is many of the aftermarket aluminum Daytona pinion supports don't offer enough press fit for the front seal & they occasionally push out. Peening 3-4 spots around the outside of the seal helps. If you still have seal issues, let me know & I'll hook you up with a bolt-on seal retainer bracket.

Hi Tim,

We don't get them from Ford/SVT so I don't know if we're talking about the same unit. It could be, because Strange makes the stuff for Ford.

The Strange nodular iron "S" case is inexpensive, lightweight & plenty strong for moderate Road Course & AutoX track duty with the 3.062 case bearings & Daytona pinion support (larger pinion bearings).

The regular nodular iron case is stronger & heavier.

When I need stronger than the "S" case, I go with the Strange "HD Pro aluminum" case (still with 3.062" bearings if the application is 31 spline. It's stronger but not such an anchor on weight as the regular Nodular iron case.

I think the case I'm using is the investment cast steel case that Strange makes for Ford racing, C&R Racing built it, suppose to be the same case the cup guys use, it's 10lbs lighter than the N case.

What gears are you running? Considering selling the third member from my DSE axle complete with no miles. Just rolled on never power through.

Believe it to be 4.10 (will verify) but wanting lower myself and probably going aluminum. Just putting it out there.
