Electric Fans 12 vs 14
This winter I am going to install a electic fan as a pusher. (No room for puller) I am looking at getting a 12in 2300 cfm or a 14in 1850 cfm fan. The Radiator is only 16.5 tall so I can't go any bigger than that. My question should I go bigger with less cfm or smaller with more cfm. No I will not shroud the fan either. Whats your oppinion is the bigger fan have more cooling since is will take up more area on the radiator or will the smaller the fan with more cfm cool better.

Why not shroud the fan? There are some pretty thin shrouded electric fans out there. They are a lot more efficient at cooling than a basket fan.
Also puller fans are going to cool a lot better than pushers. You're making two choices that will both hurt your cooling ability. |
This is going on a inline 6 with NO room for a electric fan puller. I already have a NON-electric fan as a puller. I want to add some cooling for the stop and go cruising. I don't want a shroud yes I know they help.

Spal makes some fans that are 1.5" thick. I would think you could offset a pair as pullers and get rid the the mech fan. Tim |
A stock clutch fan and good cooling system shouldn't need any help. I think you have a problem that needs addressed.

IMO, you would be better off removing the stock fan and installing a 3000+ CFM electric puller fan.

A larger diameter fan is better, however electric fan generally do not work well on copper/brass radiators because the cores are so restrictive. Stick with stock clutch fan.
