Min. size rotors for 17" wheels?

What is the minimum size rotor you can use for a 17" wheel? 11", 11.75" etc.?

You could go as small as you want. 13" are about the max, but it all depends on your wheels.

I'm thinking about the weight of the 17's over 15's as well.

As stated, there are no limits to how small you can go...just look at the drag racing kits. But if you were building a pro-street application, then the 17" wheels would be out of place. What's the big(ger) picture on this build...tell us what we're missing.

Going from 15" wheels with 11" Rotors front and rear, Wilwood Dual Piston Calipers up front and Right Stuff Singles in the rear. My concern is the difference in weight between the 15" wheels to the increased weight of the 17's and whether the 11" discs will be enough to handle the extra weight or if bigger rotors are needed. This will be mostly a street car with the occasional "spirited" run through some of the local mountain canyons. It's not how small can I go but how big do I need to go?
Does that help?
Thanks.

It sounds like you're moving over to 17" wheels/tires no matter what, so my suggestion would be that you run it with the brakes you currently have and see how you like it. Aesthetically, larger brakes will look better, but whether you need the additional brake capacity or not remains to be seen. If you find that you're repeatedly pushing your current brakes up to and beyond their capabilities, then it's time to upgrade. The more aggressively you drive, the more power you have, the stickier the tires you run, the more demanding the roads/track, etc, the more larger brakes will help, but it's all relative.

Otherwise, if you want larger brakes then I would suggest you max out what you can fit inside a 17 and go 12.8 to 13 inch diameter on the rotors, thickest you can find, probably 1.1 to 1.25 inch. If you're going to do it, do it right IMO.

Tobin,
Thanks that what I nneded to know. The 17's aren't mandatory I just wanted to know what I might need if I do.
Larry.
