Rear end Q's

Need some help on what exactly I need to go from my 2.41 to a 4.10 ratio in the 10 bolt I have. Looking at Randy's R&P site it looks like I need a new carrier for anything bigger than a 3.08....what else is needed?

The axle is out of a 78 Camaro, I still need to check if its 28 or 30 spline and like I said its currently a 2.41 ratio.

Thanks for any input
Dan

I believe the 3 and 4 series relates to 12 bolt (8.875) only. 10 bolts have under 2:73 and over 2.73 gears. So just the correct carrier and gear ratio....if its a late 8.5 its 30 spline. If it is 28 then do new axles too and go to 30 spline.

Thanks Vince, again.

Is it a pretty straight forward install or better off letting a shop handle it? I've only done an 8-3/4 and a 9" and they were set up and just needed assembly.

Its pretty easy to do but I've done a bazlion of them. The hardest part is setting the pinion depth. I have a set of tools and modified bearings to get it done quick.
BUT:
Check around, most shops only charge $2-300 to do a gear swap and set up.

Dan that's one area I'd look for a seasoned veteran to do the set up.

Motive ring & pinion sets maybe be the most consistent as any when it comes to not making noise.

I just had mine done and it's a quiet as the 3:31 OEM set I replaced.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll call around this week and get some pricing now that I know whats needed. I'm a cheap ass and may end up just going the 8.8 route.

:thankyou:
Dan
