George's 1969 Chevelle at Roadster Shop
Thought I would post this '69 Chevelle we are currently working on as a similar guide we did a few months back with a black '69 Camaro. The basic premise being that wheels and stance truly make the car.
Not every build has to be a complete tear down and start from scratch. More often than not, good vehicles with a decent paint and a classic look can get a completely new lease on life without committing to the full cost and timeframe of a ground up restoration. With a solid body, modernized driveline chassis and suspension plus the safety of new wheel/tire and braking packages, this type of build can be enjoyed after a shorter build timeframe with updates and aesthetic changes able to be added as needed. George's '69 fits this model perfectly. In this case we would be adding a FAST TRACK chassis with 4 link rear, LS motor, Wilwood brakes and Forgeline Wheels. The beginning: With a ride height most crossovers and SUV's would be proud of, this is our starting point. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8570/...02fc114a_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7364/...5975c3f0_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8663/...cc2c6ab0_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8624/...16c3ddaf_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7432/...45d4788e_b.jpg Blasting the underside https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7348/...99df9711_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7425/...87a9871e_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7432/...ae6ae947_b.jpg |
I would love to see this thing painted like the Smokey Yunick tribute car that was in Talladega Nights

Time for more pics! (Somehow February turned into June...)
With the underside clean and protected, we turn to the fit up and the couple of small mods required to the factory floor to make the most of a true performance chassis. https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7454/1...2ebdbc45_b.jpgIMG_1586 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr Tub cuts and the pocket areas required to clear the 4-bar perch. https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7388/1...466f639f_b.jpgIMG_1930 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7433/1...f1507894_b.jpgIMG_1931 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr Firewall smoothing https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7417/1...b464839d_b.jpgIMG_2408 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr Final fitup with motor and trans and fabrication of stainless exhasut. https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7413/1...50408293_b.jpgIMG_2511 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7392/1...09eb8ff5_b.jpgIMG_2514 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr Trans tunnel fab https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8561/1...2377e776_b.jpgIMG_2578 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr |

Love the build!! Do you have any other pic's of the tail pipes? Do you do other work to the chassis to fit them, or can they be built tight enough to fit? My RS chassis doesn't look like it would clear them. I would like to put some on mine, the turn downs resonate a bunch.

Overall, this is truly enjoyable car that is a blast to drive and really takes advantage of a fresh setup that the owner can get the most from at this point in the build. As mentioned at the start, getting a phenomenal new lease of life on a car like this doesn't have to be a 'start from scratch' approach when it comes to a full chassis. It can be foundation for the beginning of a long term build up over many years as time and budget allow, or it can be the start and end point of what would be a really solid, safe and performance-based project for many people out there. |
